Europe - Traveling to Romania: Lufthansa or Airfrance?

Any opnions?
Last time used British Airways but connecting times now are 8 hours or so. That rules BA out.
Also am somewhat reluctant to use AF since the connecting time is 1 hour. Last time I had a 1 hour connection at Terminal 5 Heathrow involved some running. :p

OP didn't specify from where to Romania, and what city in Romania?

From where? Schengen? US? Other?

If OP says 'US' it still doesn't help much.
I've flown LF and AF between Europe and Japan and wouldn't choose one over the other in Economy based on comfort food or service. Neither are favourite airlines for me.
I'd make a decision based on price, connection and arrival times and miles as each airline belongs to a different Frequent Flier alliance.

Thanks for the input. Is odd there seems to be very little available in terms of desirable connection, departure and arrival times. Unless different carriers are used which is a pain. So options are rather limited. Both are priced similarly. Am leaning towards LF at least there is a 3 hour time to catch the next flight and have heard CDG is a bit chaotic to chance the 1 hour connection.

That's a bit of an understatement. :) CDG can be a real PITA; go with LH.

A one hour connection in CDG vs. a three hour connection in FRA for a transfer US -> EU? That basically rules AF out.
One hour connection in FRA might be possible, in CDG it is not.

I would not agree with this statement. A 1h connection in CDG is perfectly doable, especially between Non-Schengen to Non-Schengen. This transfer is easy and painless (walking between two connecting terminals) and will not take more than 20 minutes (only security to reclear).
Having said this, I agree that Frankfurt is still the better airport than CDG.

Go for LH and try to do it via MUC. Better than FRA. If you fly via FRA and are in Y avoid the 747. Not all of them have AVOD.
I'm biased, but I'd really avoid CDG. I hate that airport.

If you are in the unluky situation of being in a 747 which is parked at the other side of the airport, then it takes you about 60 minutes in CDG to get out of the plane and to the terminal. The positive thing is that you get a free airport bus tour :D. This gives me very bad memories of a CDG connection (AF going MIA-CDG-FRA). I needed almost 5 hours for the connection in CDG and almost missed my plane at CDG. I had a free bus tour, a rather long security check line and some very unwilling security check guys. Immigration into Schengen was no issue.
I'd avoid CDG at alomost any cost (not AF). Tranferring in MUC is a rather good advice. This airport is extremely efficient. If possible, I'd choose this connection.

I concur with many others
I don't mind a short intra-europe trip with AF but connect in CDG ---- absolutely not.
LH has consistent service, albeit tight space in coach; Frankfurt airport on the other hand is reliable;

? BA212 connects to BA886 with 4:35 connection time, not 8. The 8hr is on the AA/BA connection.
Now, that said, BA only has 2 flights a day to OTP, while AFKLM have 3 each and LH also 3 each from FRA or MUC. The one potential downside for LH is only 1 flight/day BOS-MUC.
Transfer in CDG would be 2E to 2F, so no big deal on the airside bus and that should all change with new terminals. FRA would be high Z to high B and that is a long way.

If you do SkyTeam, isn't there a connection through AMS on KLM? Also, for the AF CDG connection, it should be possible to find earlier TATL flights to lengthen the connection time, although this would require leaving BOS earlier.
Finally Tarom is a member of SkyTeam and IIRC they are Romania's national carrier. They should have flights from major Western European airports that can be interlined. OTOH, if you want to avoid Tarom, watch out for their codeshares and check who does the ground handling for SkyTeam and other airlines in Bucharest.

My husband recently went to BOS-TSR via MUC, and he had a really nice trip. I'd assume you can also do a MUC-OTP, so if that's an option, I'd go with that. MUC is a nice and convenient airport, and the good beer to enjoy during your layover is a nice bonus. :)
