Heads-up for anyone flying into/out of/through SFO this weekend...
Apparently 28L (one of the two longer parallel runways normally used for landings) is closed all weekend - from Friday night until Monday morning.
Given how poorly the airport handles the loss of one runway for short periods of time due to weather, I can't see it handling this well at all...

Ops should probably be exactly what they are in bad weather - only one of the parallel runways in use. I'm here now, awaiting my inbound ;) This morning's fog means that the closure should have absolutely no practical effect right now.

Our flight due to land last night at 10:10, finally made it in at 11:50. Argh. A couple of thoughts:
1. Why doesn't the airport give advance warning so travelers can make intelligent travel decisions? We would have gladly selected OAK;
2. Due to all the delays, the baggage pick-up traffic was horrific, and understaffed with traffic police. As we waited we saw one car that just idled, blocking traffic in front of T2 for 20 minutes. Certainly they knew the delays would cause traffic issues and should've planned accordingly.

Whatever it is they are installing on this runway, won't they also have to do it on the other one as well? If so, there's another three day period like this in our future.
