I think by October 31, 2012 and I think it will be increased to $595.00.

I don't think they will, there's too much competition in the US market.

I hope they don't up it, I think if the do they are going to lose a lot of business with the economy the way it is no way most people wond drop them like a bad habit!

Given the way Chase is trying its best to get hold of most Amex premium customers, I doubt if Amex would even dare try and hike the fees for the Plat.

I agree completely. They're attempting to hit Cent with the Palladium, and Plat customers with the Sapphire Preferred. I'm also positive that both annual fees are substantially lower for the Chase cards.

Looking at the fees, benefits and rewards:

Sapphired Preferred completes with Premier Rewards Gold
Palladium may compete with Platinum, if Chase focuses
Chase has nothing in the Centurion category

AMEX could successfully argue that the Plat has more value than the SP with the lounges and other side benefits. I don't know that they could argue there's a lot more than $360 worth of value add though.

Chase's United Club card might be comparable vs. Platinum in most of the benefits. United lounges vs. the AMEX/prioritypass set, hyatt plat vs. spg gold, etc.

Trust me, I've been more than happy with Amex and they will continue to have my business for a long time. Centurion is a definite bucket list item for me... It just surprises me after reading the Palladium thread how much cross referencing with the Centurion there was.

A part of me agrees with you on this one. Damn I hate being susceptible and victim to status. It kills me to say it, but I know it would make me feel good.
