16 LBS isn't a lot. If I just put clothing in a 21" roller board it will probably be > 16 LBS. Do they weigh your carry-on? http://www.islandair.com/flight-info/baggage/

Is it possible to have a 21" roller, half full of clothes only, weigh < 16 LBS? I've never weighed mine. I need two tix LIH-KOA in Feb. and HA seems to have the most liberal carry-on rules but very few flts. are available on HA using UA miles. WP has a good flt. time for us but I need to balance the higher fees. We'll have two 21" rollers, a 26" bag & one set of golf clubs. Ideas? Aloha1 Jun 4, 12, 2:40 pm No, unless your roll aboard is made of paper. 1111aaaa Jun 8, 12, 9:18 pm They weighed my carry-on at LIH; they are pretty strict. Did they weigh it at check in when you went to get a boarding pass from the agent or at the gate when you boarded? I'm thinking if you print your own boarding pass and go directly to the gate will you be able to get away with >16lb? FlyinHawaiian Jun 9, 12, 4:47 am I didn't do OLCI, so had to check in and get my boarding pass from an agent, which is where they weighed my backpack carry-on. Before departing LIH, we stopped at the nearby post office and put some of our heavier items/dirty laundry into a flat rate priority mailing box and mailed them home to ourselves. slippahs Jun 9, 12, 2:45 pm I didn't do OLCI, so had to check in and get my boarding pass from an agent, which is where they weighed my backpack carry-on. Trick is to OLCI with WP (and booking an award using miles from other carriers will lock you out of OLCI) or hide your bags from the counter when you do check in there. While you do get to avoid the checked bag fee, you may encounter some nasty remarks from others who had to check their bags as you line up to board. :) Tony10s Jun 12, 12, 9:04 pm All correct They weigh bags at check in. ( mine weighed at KOA on Sunday) Limited overhead space ( read shallow ) But lots of under seat space in front of you. slippahs Jun 13, 12, 12:33 am All correct They weigh bags at check in. Aloha1 Jun 16, 12, 6:42 pm And also the ability to gate check! Not any more. They are citing a FAA reg that says they can't gate check anything. Flying HNL-JHM, your carry on has to fit under the seat as they will not stow it in the luggage compartment. Same thing the other way. slippahs Jun 16, 12, 7:17 pm Wirelessly posted (iPhone-ETOPS: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_1_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9B206 Safari/7534.48.3) And also the ability to gate check!
