Save them for where hotels are more expensive when paying with cash. You should be able to get a room more or less equivalent to a hilton for as little as $40 downtown, $100 on the strip, or $75 elsewhere. (include resort fees in your calculus.) If you are there on weekdays (sunday thru thursday nights) you should be able to pay about half that. To see a list of deals available, check out http://deals.lasvegasadvisor.com/hotels. It's like drinking from a firehose. It's also a good idea to go to hotels' actual web sites and sign up for their email list, if you don't mind the emails or have a dedicated inbox, and/or like them on facebook. I've also written a blog post (http://zzdouggo.blogspot.com/2012/04/taking-kids-to-vegas-really-part-3.html) which covers when to use hotwire/priceline in vegas. The short answer is: not usually, unless it is a weekend, you know what you are doing, not particular about room/bed size, and are pretty familiar with the market. On weekdays you can often do just as well booking directly with the hotel or on a cancelable web site such as hotels.com. A few odd things about hotel-casinos in Vegas: (not guaranteed - please check) - all have free valet parking - cancellation period is up to 3 days in advance, not same day - very few have in-room coffee makers - very few include internet access - most but not all tack on resort fees ranging from about $5 to $25 per night |
