FT folks--has anybody stayed at Soneva Kiri and is willing to provide a review? In particular I am interesting in quality of beach and food. Also, I have read some of the comparisons of Six Senses to Aman, but if anybody has stayed at Soneva Kiri and Amanpulo and can make a direct comparison, that would be great.

I have been to both Amanpulo and Soneva Kiri. We really enjoyed Amanpulo, the beaches were wonderful, the snorkeling the best I"ve ever experienced. The rooms are slightly old fashioned but completely in keeping with the place and we had no complaints with the place.

However Soneva Kiri was completely different, it had had fantastic reviews but from start to finish was a disappointment , from the pickup at Bangkok airport that was arranged for us to overnight there , to the room at Soneva Kiri, and the food. The main beach was very small and quite rough and fairly populated,l whereas at Amanpulo you can walk round the whole island and have the pick of any beach. The main plus of Soneva Kiri was that when we complained the GM was fantastic and tried to do whatever he could to sort things out and do what he could.

Which category of suite/villa did you take at Soneva Kiri? I am planning to go at some point this year or early in 2013 and am looking at the Ocean Villa Suites.

We stayed in a cliff side suite as our agent advised this gave better view and more private. It certainly has better privacy, but if we were to do it again I would go with a beach one.
We went and looked at them and felt they were much better. Their layout is very different also, and if you have to use the bathroom in the night you do not have to go out in the rain as much which you do in the cliff suites, they also are made from different materials and were not so liable to mi
Dew which the cliff ones were.

Thanks for this information, I will avoid the cliff suites. I have been looking online and also thought that the Ocean Villa Suites looked better.

I realize that the accommodation might be excessively rustic, but I am intrigued enough by the Soneva concept and its location in Koh Kood to give it a try.

OT, but I recently noticed that Soneva Nisi will open in 2014-2015 on the island of Milos in Greece.
