Luxury Hotels - Shangri-La Paris is now Virtuoso
Just got an email blast that Shangri-La Paris has been accepted into Virtuoso. Amenities are:
Daily American Breakfast for 2 in our restaurant La Bauhinia
Upgrade at time of booking, subject to availability
One way airport transfer with minimum 3 night stay
85 food credit (minimum 3 night stay in Room)
125 food credit (minimum 3 night stay in Suite)

Those are great benefits, even by Virtuoso standards, assuming the room rate is no higher than one can get without Virtuoso.

Great, indeed! I will definitely want to book there now ... but Mandarin Oriental first.

The amenities listed on Virtuoso Composer are slightly different from what was in the email blast:
Upgrade at time of booking, subject to availability
One USD$100 Food & Beverage credit (credit not combinable, not valid on room rate, no cash value if not redeemed in full)
American Breakfast for up to two in-room guests daily
They have posted Virtuoso rates lower than the Published rates on Composer:
Superior - 808 (vs. 900)
Deluxe - 960 (vs. 1060)
Premier - 1102 (vs. 1210)
Eiffel Premier - 1387 (vs. 1600
and then seven suite categories.
However, the BAR on the GDS is significantly lower (at least for 15JUL-3NT which I plugged in), and the Virtuoso rates are not yet loaded. I have written to try to get the scoop on this: are Virtuoso rates = the BAR?

Dropping the airport transfer from the Virtuoso benefits you mentioned initially is a major change, if that's indeed the case.

Agreed. I'll report what I hear back from the hotel, presumably on Monday.

Somebody was apparently looking for even better amenities:

I would have thought booking an entire floor for five months would be significantly more expensive than $7.4 million.

Post #8 links to this already. Find it interesting that Italy has outlawed these type of cash payments. Wonder if it will effect business in the major cities from the MidEast and Russian markets.

It is not illegal to make this type of cash payment.
What is required is that the identity of the person making the payment is:
a) Verifiable
b) Documented for verification
The documentation may be asked for by the financial police who can then check that the money came from a legally declared source.
Note, interestingly, there is an exemption for jewellery so there is a huge gaping loophole.

Currently staying at Shangri-La for the week-end. I had already visited the restaurants but it is the first time that we will actually spend the night here. In Paris we had tried FSGV and Park Hyatt. I am totally blown away. Check-in was fast & efficient. We were led to a lounge and served drinks while waiting maximum 5 minutes that everything is ready. We have been upgraded from a Premier room to a Premier Duplex suite. Wow factor guaranteed. Service is excellent. We asked for a table at Shang Place unfortunately it was already fully booked. They still offered to serve dinner in the suite with dishes from Shangri Palace menu. Fitness is not big but Technogym equipment is great. Swimming pool shall open before Christmas. We were lucky enough to tour the facility, it will be probably the nicest pool of Paris palaces.

You do have some natural light at royal monceau pool.
the pool is very white with large mirror, there is really a wow factor. Probably one of the the best spa in Paris. At least nicer SPA than Meurice, FS, MO (MO there is no wet / heat area for outside guest, you just change in the nice massage room)

DavidO - Are you still able to get rates as good as the Virtuoso rates above? I know this was from last year, but they are pretty darn good for this property.
