Hi FT community,
I'm going to New York for my 40th and am trying to get a 2 br suite with points so me, my Dad, my brother, and a friend can all have dinner, drinks, and crash in a room. I have over 100,000 HH points saved, as well as Gold Hilton status.
Any advice for this? I heard Doubletree has great suites and decent upgrade chances if you write the GM a letter?
thank you in advance,
simon

Premium room awards allow one to redeem points for the desired room category, rather than hoping for an upgrade. Some times/places/room classes the increment of points above a standard room award isn't too bad; sometimes it is staggering.

Are there such premium room awards available in NYC, even staggering ones? I can always bump up my account by an extra 70K in HH by opening a Hawaiian Air CC.

Yes. You can search online, although you'll need to pick a property before being shown available room types for awards. Don't search for occupancy of more than two adults. Use the 'narrow results' check boxes to limit search to suites, then consider booking by phone and noting you will have four guests. You may find that two (or even 3 or 4) standard rooms may be a more economical use of points.

Two bedroom suites at Hilton Properties in New York City will pretty much limit you to very few choices.

If you only need one night (or even two if you can stretch your points to 200,000), you might want to consider grabbing two 1BR Suites at the DoubleTree Suites Times Square (@ 50,000 each). There's better availability for 2 night stays, but at least half of the nights in the next few months are available for 1 night reward stays.
