National - Does free day invalidate rental credit?

Just finished a three day rental in which I used a free day credit. I noticed on the website that I received no rental credit for the reservation. Does using a free day invalidate the entire reservation for credit?

Bonus question, if the free day does invalidate for rental credit, does it also not count towards my rental days for elite staus?

Thanks!

I'm assuming that you used 1 free day on the 3 day rental? You should definitely get rental credit for that - I do that all the time.

If you used 1 free day for a 1 day rental - I used to think that you don't get rental credit but I believe you actually do.

Yes, I used one free rental day and paid for the other two days. Under the "reward" section it says -N/A-...

I had just dropped off a rental for business purposes and then picked up my personal rental, which is the question above. I wonder if they linked the rentals and since the total number of paid days combined was seven days, they didn't give me credit on the second rental. Seems weird though since I had two separate transactions on two different credit cards.

Consecutive rentals from the same location do not earn a second credit.

Well not really. If you were staying close to the facility, you could turn the car in each day and get a credit per day.

I will agree that National should operate like the hotels and apply credits based on rentals or days. Hilton ran a promotion where I got a free night for 4 stays or 10 nights. They could easily do the same.

I am wondering if that only applies to the same car class. We've done it three times where we arrived before the rest of our family/friends on vacation, rented a mid-size until everyone gets there, then return and get a larger vehicle. I've always gotten 2 credits, both for free days and for credit toward Executive.

Consider yourself lucky - that normally doesn't work. Unless you do the first rental and the next one is under a different acc. ?

Or are we experiencing a major IT glitch :D ?
