I have 188,504 Etihad guest miles from a job I had last year in Abu Dhabi and I would love some advice on what to do with them. I have tried to use them on American Airlines flights but the taxes they charge are so high it doesn't seem worthwhile. I have also tried to use them to get to Southeast Asia but shockingly I didn't have enough. Does anyone have advice on what to do with them? I also have 86,000 Emirates miles I'm looking to get rid of. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

The guest miles that you have are more than enough to get a return business class ticket to Australia from AUH, or in your case a return ticket to AUH assuming you're located in the States?
From AUH you could fly on paid tickets to wherever you like?
Redeem in Business & the fees wil pale into insignificance compared to many paid tickets. Redeeming in ecomomy (mostly) is a waste.

Buy a Y ticket and upgrade yourself.
Donate your miles to Medicins sans Frontieres or another charity that needs to move people from one place to another.

Thanks all. Yes I am located in the US. Does anyone know if it is possible to leverage my gold status on Etihad and Emirates to get status on another airline that I am more likely to use in the US? I have looked at the status matching posts but I wasn't able to tell whether it was likely to get status matched by airlines that fly such different routes. Do people know?
