I know we had another thread with this route, but the prices seemed to be almost $100 higher so figured I would post this one up.

Bookable and no tricks. Sample dates Oct 21- 29. $524. Looks like a lot of availability around that time

In the UA EWR-IST direct flights, this books into K and works out to about 5.2 CPM. Great fare!

Connections are available on LH and LX for a bit more. The UA flight appears to be operated by the 763 with new lie-flat seats in C.

And for anyone interested in this sort of thing, W comes out to $1017.90.

Use the triangle in the lower left corner of the post to alert the mods. Once a thread is posted, the poster cannot edit the thread title, only a moderator can do that. The MR Deals mods are usually pretty good about this when alerted.

Disagree. 5CPM IS a MR these days.

This is why many of the older timers don't do mileage runs anymore. Too easy to get miles otherwise, and flying solely to accumulate miles, except on mistake fares, is too expensive.

But everyone has their hobbies.

Now, if you aren't using your own money, that is another story...

Well, mileage runs are mostly for the MQMs, which you can't get easily except for annual credit card bonuses. And don't forget, if you are platinum, you get double miles! So it's kind of double dipping.

I'm in only a little better shape being in southwest Ohio, but it's often not viable for us. ORD and DTW are in easy driving distance when it comes to that, but fares to east coast hubs are not always good for positioning flights. (I'll say that this is where the dreaded Avios have actually been useful for short hops CMH-JFK/LGA)

Luckily I had some vouchers burning a hole in my pocket and we had thought about visiting IST soon. Figured why not go to Turkey over "Turkey Day" so we made this our family Thanksgiving vacation.:D

Anyway thanks for posting it!!

Does this still qualify for 100% UA EQMs even if the transatlantic section is a UA codeshare on Lufthansa with fare class K? According to UA's mileage accrual chart, K does not qualify for any miles. I really hope I'm wrong as I'd love to go for Turkey Day. :p

Unfortunately, no. Your flight will post as a LH flight in K, and thus no miles...in fact it will not even post. Same with connecting flights. Best to do only UA across the Atlantic, then TK to IST. LX is same as LH, no mileage for K and L fares.

Turkey is the most stable country in the region at the moment, and you'll find Istanbul a bustling booming city that today puts most American cities to shame. Not sure what is "not rosy" about the country. (Yes, there are issues with the government, but these would not impact any tourist visiting IST. Compared with Athens which is in turmoil, the Turkish economy is strong and were the country in the EU it would be just behind Germany, France and the Netherlands, and ahead of even the UK.)

AF has been cutting fares on most routes from NAmerica to try to capture customers. I'm not sure if UA will go any lower. Most fares are in the $800 range again (ex-EWR) for October/November, though some $600s are still around. Not familiar with SkyTeam and mileage given for low fares on AF and KLM when credited to DL.

It seems to be a Kayak error. SFO - BCN showing $460 KLM/AF 2/12 - 2/24. Also some other destinations showing these errors via Kayak alerts. None price out for me.

It's a nice fare (I know 5cpm is a touch high, but if I took a day off, it's a minivacation, etc. and it puts a large dent in my EQMs needed for 1K requalification), but I also don't think I can put up with that much time in coach.

Yes. That is, assuming you have a passport that doesn't require a visa to get into the Netherlands (like, say, one from the USA).

It's quick & easy to go into centraal Amsterdam from the airport by train, as the station is right there in the airport. Note: the ticket machines for the train won't take a US credit card unless it has a smart chip.

Let me start by saying I am new at all this...trying to learn (any/all info is welcome!)...

The ORD-IST ticket ((Thanks for posting this deal $596)) changes planes in AMS (both directions) - Do I have to use the AMS-IST & IST=AMS legs?

I would like to get off the plane in AMS and board the plane in AMS...The time and cost are perfect!

What are the written/unwritten rules are here?

Have you done this before? Is it allowed? Is it possible?

Thanks!

Unfortunately you can't do that. If you don't board the IST leg the ticket will automatically be cancelled

Unless if you book two one ways instead of a RT. Not sure if the cost will go up though (usually RT booking is required).

However, even if you can, airlines look down on that kind of stuff!
