Citibank PM Visa card is being offered as a "Visa Signature" card. This, I guess is 1 level up from Platinum. A quick google tells me that Signaure cards comes with no pre-set credit limit (that is, credit limit is not disclosed to customer), and an exclusive service desk.
However, there are warnings that a Visa Signature card can adversly affect credit rating of an individual (CIBIL rating in case of India). I am not sure of the reasons. It looks like Visa signature may not be a good choice unless one is a high spender.

I've ran my CIBIL report a while back. what I've observed is:
1. Most of the banks does not report the data properly - specially the credit limit. ICICI & Citi has not reported the credit limit and max credit. HSBC & SCB has reported all the data.
2. My Current JACC Card is not even reported. (It was converted from JACC Titanium, for which some data is available.
3. Citi has not done a credit check while converting my JACC Titanium to JACC Platinum.
The Mobile / Utility bills are not reported (Compared to US).
Having my JACC Platinum reported will certainly improve my credit score by 20-30 Points (High Limit, less then 20% Spend, On-time payment, primary card for all purchases). But it's not reported. may be when the new card is issued, Citi will start reporting.

Now you cant book jet airways tickets on Premier miles website. This is whate Citibank is asking us to do now
Use your Citibank PremierMiles Credit Card to book your preferred flight on Jet Airways through their website, ticketing counter or service center.
Call Citibank on below numbers and get your Jet Airways ticket refunded by redeeming miles.
Miles will be debited for these transactions at a value of 1 Mile = Rs. 0.50. (A ticket purchase of Rs 1000 would cost you 2000 Miles.)
This option is only valid for customers who have enough Miles to cover the entire ticket amount.
The refund can be processed for transactions that are settled and reflect in billed or unbilled status.
The refund will reflect in your card account within 7 days from the request received.
This refund will be valid for entire ticket amount including taxes

I need a strategy for change from jacc to pm. My billing cycle is 18th of the Month. I want to collect as many miles as part of the 3x promotion of jet airways and then move to pm. The cut of date for change is 30th June. If I change after my June bill is made will I be eligible for all prior purchases to get the 3x miles. Also once I change on the 25th for example would it make a difference if I change before paying off the bill or after paying off the bill. Would the rolled over balance earn me miles again on the pm card.

from the date you swap your card, they will credit to your premiermiles account. all the transactions till that day would go into your JP account. since the 3x offer is from 9w, what they will do is to take all your spend based miles and apply a 3x on it after the offer period is over.

Are you sure? The below text is from Citi Email.
Your existing card will remain active for 60 days after the conversion request is processed to help you transact till the Citibank PremierMiles Card is sent to you. You would be required to retain a copy of your old credit card (front & back) in case the same was used to make any reservation / book airline tickets for any impending travel.
JPMiles: All JPMiles billed on your card would be transferred to your JP membership account with Jet Airways. The miles would not be transferred to your new card. All unbilled JPMiles would be transferred to the new card within 60 days. Once your existing card is converted, you would earn miles on your card spends as per the features of the PremierMiles card.
So, If I put a request for conversion to PM card on 25th June, the JACC Card will be active for another 60 Days?

To Clarify - after the 1 unbilled transaction, were you using JACC card and still the miles are sent to PM account? or the transactions are using PM card. In later case, it make sense as the card used is PM.

to start with, you will need income documents in India, a local indian address, and a PAN card. credit history checks will be done with the CIBIL credit bureau before they hand you out a card. some friends are still holding on to their existing indian cards after moving from india, however not sure if they issue a fresh card to people outside India, especially since you are not in the ambit of courts here.

I don't know, but why the excitement on BA Avios and Delta SkyMiles? I don't get it. Its a well known fact that BA charges hefty YQ++ equivalent (almost) to Y fares. And Delta is known for stingy availability (in some survey, it was at the bottom of heap, even lower than 9W). A casual look at their respective sub-forums confirms it.
To me, none of the partners except AI are 'good value for points'. I am open to be corrected (and hope to).

There are 3 partners. AI, DL, BA.
If you have ever looked at DL and BA's FFPs, you will know that longhaul premium redemptions are a) a ripoff, and b) difficult to find.
That leaves AI as the only effective partner for those types of redemptions. AI's FFP has a lot of things that I don't like about it, but availability sure isn't one of them.

First off, there are six partners: AI, BA, CX, DL, SQ and TG. So far anyway.
BA's cash component is high, but availability is surprisingly decent, especially when travelling from India. And they have a range of cash/points combinations available, so you can choose how much of each you want to spend.
Which is something you would know if you actually knew anything about EC, instead of cherry-picking and making stuff up in order to make AI look less bad (a losing proposition if ever there were one).
Availability on Delta isn't horrible either. And their cash component is often non-existent.
Plus, both give you the option of searching and ticketing on a range of partners directly from the website, without any phone calls and printing and signing and faxing involved.
As for AI, when you have empty planes, what else are you going to go? And even if they're generous in terms of availability, you're still stuck on Air India. No thanks.

Eh?. I thought it was originally AI, IT, 9W, and BA and DL had replaced IT and 9W.
TG, SQ, and CX all bring something to the table...
BA's cash component is high, but availability is surprisingly decent, especially when travelling from India. And they have a range of cash/points combinations available, so you can choose how much of each you want to spend. The cash component is invariably high. You can "choose" whether you want it higher or not. That said, I agree about availability, especially when you add in OW partners.
Availability on Delta isn't horrible either. And their cash component is often non-existent. Cash component is usually small on DL, but availability is pretty horrible. I've got almost 100k that I've been trying to get rid of for years now...
Plus, both give you the option of searching and ticketing on a range of partners directly from the website, without any phone calls and printing and signing and faxing involved. All of the airlines you mentioned do - AI, BA, CX, DL, SQ and TG.
As for AI, when you have empty planes, what else are you going to go? And even if they're generous in terms of availability, you're still stuck on Air India. No thanks.
Availability is generous and charges are [i]relatively[i] low. This is because LFs are low, yes. But the fact that AI's mismanagement causes generous availability and low charges is entirely irrelevant to the discussion on value for points.
Whether you want to fly on AI or not is a personal choice of course.

On the surface, BA's Executive Club is a rip off compared to Americans AAdvantage.
But it is a good program that rewards loyalty especially in the premium classes.
It is no different to JetPoovilege, it has similar rates for redemptions and similar fees for YQ and taxes.
The biggest difference is that you can redeem on Oneworld partners and invariably the YQ element is a lot cheaper.

i was just checking the premiermiles website for some options to redeem some miles....the route i'm looking at is lhr-ams-lhr....on klm the lowest fare is inr 8,566....through premier miles i can get the same flight for inr 8,236 plus 2,984 miles....the difference between the two is that the klm fare is non-refundable with no changes allowed....the premier miles fare allows changes for 25% of the fare they are charging....
so basically i end up paying the same fare either way but the 2,984 miles gives me the flexibility of changing my ticket for about inr 2k....i'm tempted to go with the miles option even though i don't expect any changes....what do you guys think????

Similar programs do book into revenue fare buckets in the US. Whether that's true in India or not, I wouldn't know.
I guess the only way to find out is to test it :) - if you do decide to book using this program, please do let us know what fare bucket it books into.

I've found it's always best to try and talk to the operating airline directly.
I had a similar situation with a Cathay flight I had booked using Jet points.
Oddly, the Cathay booking was on Jet stock and had a Jet PNR number. Which meant I couldn't do anything on either website. Maybe that's a common practice now, but it was a first to me. So I called Jet and asked for the CX ticket number or a CX PNR so that I could check in etc. This time, unfortunately, I got one of the usual JetIdiots, and she claimed she did not have that information and could not get it. But was there anything else she could (not) help me with?
I was not surprised.
I called Cathay and the woman just laughed and said I should have called her in the first place. She gave me all the information I needed, took down the APIS details, assigned us seats and checked us in, all in less time than Jet had me on hold.

1. Got Master World Card - the major difference with VISA is on the lounge access. Is it possible to get the VISA card?
2. DO I need to generate a new IPIN, currently the Citi Online access with my JACC Card shows both PM & JACC card.
3. Is there a separate login ID for the PM Portal? - Auto registerted or should I register separately?
4. The Tax & Fees paid using PM Portal while redeeming tickets - Do they earn miles?

1) I presume you have the earlier JACC MasterCard, which is why you got the MC again. Call back citi and ask for a swap to visa, slightly tedious for them so they drag their feet on it, but happens eventually.
2) you can use the new card number with old ipin.
3) separate login for PM portal and you need to register separately. not too tedious though. your email id will be the login and you will choose a password along.
4) tax and fees do earn miles.

Hi Guys,
I can see a lively discussion here on the JACC to PM conversion. I haven't converted my card yet and wanted to know about the lounge access rules.
Do we still have access to the domestic airport lounges (Mumbai, Hyderabad, Delhi) free of charge. I read somewhere that there is a $27 charge for access to lounges which are part of the Priority Pass program.
Also, how do we book Jet Airways tickets through the PM website. There are no results shown for any of my searches.
These will help me make up my mind.
Thanks in advance.

You need to call them and do something convoluted to redeem points on Jet flights (k819 pointed this out above). The procedure is:
This refund will be valid for entire ticket amount including taxes.

Okay so I have made the switch, the new card is with me and all other aspects are nice. I know the first billing cycle is yet to be done, but I want a place where I can see how many points I have. Even if I have zero, I want to see it. And I can't seem to see it anywhere. I created a login on the premier miles website but even over there I can't find any info like that.
It shows up on your monthly statement. Or yoy can send a text (I can't remember what exactly to text to the Citibank 5-digit number).
But I agree, this is something they do need to work on. It will also be nice to see a working calculation that shows how the balance was arrived at.
That's pretty crap. Did not expect this when I made the switch. First thing I have found disappointing about the card. But for some reason this card is not exciting me that much. Definitely not as much as my JACC when I first got it.

shahadil and simz - the PM card can't be a true substitute for a Jet-branded card, if benefits on Jet are important to you. The same goes for most other co-branded cards, I suppose.
I'm oversimplifying here, but with one, you will get more benefits, though they largely will be on Jet only. With the other, you will get fewer benefits, but they will be on more than Jet.
Anyway to check this from abroad?

till 3-4 weeks back or so the points were also turning up in the 'redeem rewards' section of the citibank online portal. now it does not show up there.
how are they connected? here is how. the premiermiles portal is run by a 3rd party called Loyalty Rewardz for Citibank. The backend of tickets/hotel booking is via Cleartrip. when you book, they bill and send the information to Citi.
I am not happy that this card does not allow me to book redemptions on Jet Airways or transfer 1:1 to them. they had some sweet deals there but JEt gatecrashed their party then.

I think the pm website is useful for airlines to whom you can not transfer points. But then again fr Bom-leh on go air , as opposed to 5300 rupees on go website premier miles wants 14000 points plus 800 odd rupees. So this woul be useful on the last day when the fares are touching around 8-9k. But then premier miles doubles the miles requirement on that day.

These are "normal" sort of prices for reward cards which have their own currency.
If you have Amex Membership Rewards or SPG points and use the currency to purchase flights directly, you will always end up with "Bonkers" prices.
This allows one to use points to purchase "Revenue" fares. Instead of paying 180,000 INR, you are paying 180,000 points.
It is always cheaper to transfer into the airline to book seats but you have far less availability to play with.
Unless you are stupendously points rich with these types of reward accounts, direct purchases are always a no go.

I agree. Do keep one thing in mind though. PM availability is based on "paid" inventory and thus much easier to get than the "award" inventory that BAEC will pull from. Especially for Club World, which can be quite bad at times. So if you are really restricted on your choice of dates, you may find some (albeit arguably poor!) value in direct PM redemptions....

Especially for Club World, which can be quite bad at times. So if you are really restricted on your choice of dates, you may find some (albeit arguably poor!) value in direct PM redemptions....
unless i'm redeeming with very short notice, i've always managed to get availability on either ba or one of their partner airlines using ba miles....that's the one thing i really like about ba....

Does the Mastercard variant of PM Card has NO access to Lounge in BOM Domestic Terminal?
The Other Banks with Lounge access for Mastercard lists Clipper Lounge - but not the PM card.
Any experiences?
Trouble is, there is no clipper lounge in domestic anymore. The 1B one was brought down a long time ago, and 1 A has one in the basement which is an empty hall with few tables and no body visiting. Maybe that gone as well.
All full service flights go via 1C where there is celebrations lounge.

Well, looking for two seats does change things.
But even for two pax, it looks like the following dates have availability on DEL-LHR:
September: 10, 11, 12, 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, 26
October : 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10, 15, 16, 17, 22, 23, 24, 29, 30

Citibank have told me this regarding the benefit:
2 Free ticket i.e. the you could book the ticket within the validity of the codes only for the flights where base fare is less than Rs 1500. The ceiling has increased from 1200 to 1500.

Not necessarily the best use of the codes since AMD fares are usually available for a reasonable amount anyway, but they would have expired, so I may as well have.
By the way, it may be worth trying to book a trip as two one-ways instead of a return. It may save a couple of hundred rupees.

None of them great though. RJ needs overnight for the connection. The the Helsinki flights from UK are in Economy with cheap champagne served to make it look like business which is the worst value for money ever.

You'll be surprised how much airlines have added on as "other charges" whilst keeping base fares low!
Eg, on AI/IC, the base fare from Bombay to most places served non-stop is under Rs 1,500. That includes the likes of Ahmedabad and Bangalore and Calcutta and Rajkot.
For BOM-CCU, from a total of just over Rs 5,000 the "other charges" amount to 3,500.
There's only a few places where the base exceeds 1,500, such as Delhi and Cochin.

fair enough....my point was that between ba & its partners, usually there is availability on the dates & sector you want....
also, you can do a combination of ba from lhr-amm & then rj from amm-del....connection time in amm is only 2 hrs....no overnight....

the difference between ba & 9w is that you can book the partner redemption yourself directly on the ba site where as you have to send in a request form to 9w & then wait anywhere from 3 - 14 days for them to get back to you with availability & pricing....also, partner redemption via 9w is non-refundable so once the ticket is booked, you won't get back the miles & taxes if you cancel or want to change dates....on ba you can cancel or change for a small fee....

only problem is AI will let me redeem these miles for tickets but will not allow me to upgrade from Silver tier.

because this is an airline agnostic card, not cobranded.. hence you'll have to do the manual process if you want all your miles as air india miles.
not too many frequent flyer progs around the world offer a tier change even to their co-branded members, so someone offering it to a premier miles customer aint happening anytime soon. until iridium becomes the new platinum that is...

those promos are usually driven by the airlines rather than the card companies. So, you gotta watch out for whichever program you're wanting to transfer to have a transfer bonus. Like I emptied all my random HDFC Bank, ICICI and other points into my Jet airways account a while back when they offered a 25% bonus.

Cool thanks. I asked the same to Citi and for some reason they said "priority pass is complimentary for additional card holder and usage will be charged to primary card holder" which has confused me. What usage charge? And is it really Priority Pass? I thought it was the Visa Signature (or MasterCard Platinum) that made the access possible, not Priority Pass.

Welcome to FT.
Did you confirm the terms on the phone when you asked for the card swap? If it is on tape that you confirmed on 1000 rs then they will have no problems adjusting it I believe.
As for spending limits, these are not evaluated at the time of card swaps AFAIK, because this is simply transfer of your unsecured credit line from one account to another account number basis an earlier credit appraisal done on you. If you want a higher limit, send them your current income documents and they should be able to set you a new limit.

it appears pretty clear to me basis past experience with citi. since this is a welcome offer and not an annual offer, you will get the entire tranch of 10 miles. you're in for a good benefit actually since you pay 500 more and you get benefits worth 3000 more. those vouchers willcome in the next tranch they issue, with 6 months validity so you'll have enough time to use them.

So the card has arrived (quite quickly indeed), and sure enough, airline vouchers are missing. They have included a bunch of vouchers for free hotel nights, car rentals and Matrix (on the website I only remember seeing Matrix vouchers)... not at home so not sure of all the fine print conditions with these vouchers.
I threw Half of them in the dust bin. Kept a couple because they seemed just a little interesting and I am not sure I will use even those.

they are giving 10k miles to everyone who is signing up new or converted and so you will get them. however, to get them youhave to satisfy the terms and conditions which is one transaction of 1000 rs.
First spend the money then if they don't give you the miles then it is a different story. do appreciate that most of these things are 'automated' and if a new cust service kid does not know, it does not mean it won't happen.
and yes, given the new details you share, i think Citi has given everyone who converted before 30th june the 10k miles against a 1k fee (10k miles, no vouchers) and everyone who converted after that the regular offerof 3k fee (10 kmiles, 2 vouchers).
hope this clarifies.

Truly unique situation since you booked on JACC and cancelled on PM. U saved 1000 PM however ;)
Write to them using the citi website. Will take time but hopefully resolved to ur satisfaction. I hv had a couple of instances too where our interpretation of rules was different. Worked eventually.

I cancelled a 1.10 L ticket which I had booked 2 months back. They have taken away 10,000 miles for this instead of the 4k that I had earned as it was a non Jet ticket.
This is when you need a good quality phone as the plastic ones just break after a couple of calls to the help desk
Well 4 phones have been broken after 4 stress causing calls to the Citi helpdesk. Every time the person listens and agrees to my query and when I call back they give the same automated response that all past earnings have been sent to Jet.
Please be noted that whenever we received any credit from the merchant the amount debited towards the card account has been credited back along with the miles. We regret the inconvenience caused in this regards. For any further assistance, please feel free to contact our 24*7 CitiPhone banking division
Is the reply I get.
Spoke with a manager 3 days ago who promised a reply and gave me a refernace for the query. Call up now and that ref is non existent and the query was never set up
Any suggestions?

I am following both routes. I have started a online query and that is even worse as I have asked this question 3 times now and they don't even read the question. They seem to have a cut and paste method going where they copy the answer they think is closest to it and paste it which is no where near what I am asking.
I am gonna flight this one to the end. Nothing fires me up more then when companies do this.

1C is not directly accessible from outside the airport, but is the new set of jetbridges they installed a few years back. It is only connected from 1B/1A internally. Anyone who wants to use the jetbridge goes to 1C, else stays at 1A/1B as per their allocation.

Can they actually check that at the lounge though? All they really do is swipe the card and make a dummy charge, and if it looks like a regular Visa Signature then it should work?
I also believe Citi rep told me that it will be available for additional card holders, but I trust them less given they also told me I'll get free airline tickets with the conversion but I didn't.

i dont know how it works on the Visa program since I dont have any Visa Signature cards in my portfolio. However there is no way to make the difference on a MC add-on, and my bro uses my card's add-on all the time for lounge access since MasterCard extends benefits to add-ons as well.

An update on the "promise" of free tickets made by Citi when trying to get me to upgrade, without too many details:
1. Card arrived without any free flight vouchers, so I emailed them asking about them
2. Got a stock response of "that's only with new cards, not for upgraded cards" etc - from the same guy who had promised it in the first place
3. Replied with screenshot of the promise made by the same guy, asking for explanation
4. Over a week went (with an automated response mid-way stating "we need more time to resolve")
5. Got a response with apology and that they'll never do it again, etc - but they can't "accommodate my request"
6. Responded with another email, and also gave an option of crediting PM miles to my account instead
7. Another wait of over a week (with two automated "we need more time" emails), and now they have sent me the vouchers. Oddly the response said they're emailing 2 vouchers, but the email containing the vouchers has 3.
Overall, I had to send a few reasonably-strongly-worded emails. And wait for almost 3 weeks.
The experience of dealing with their support wasn't that great - the guy kept giving inaccurate, inconsistent messages throughout (and they were copy/pasted from stock responses). Not sure if Citi is trying to match Indian banks in terms of customer service standards.
But at least they did send the vouchers. And I hope at least 2 of them work!

they should have arrived anyways. these are 'email' codes not voucher in the real sense. and they are dispatched in batches, so they could come early or late. anyways, you're 1500 rs. in the money already with the 3rd voucher now.

Sorry, now I remember correctly. for JACC members the offer was 1k fee, 10,000 PM on first txn. so there was no voucher in the game anyways for them. However, looks like some folks got an offer with vouchers included like yourself.

i think the folks at Citi are working hard to promote their product and leaving no stone unturned to bring this card to be one of the best travel benefits card around. I know some people at Citi and we discussed this a few times, that is where my view comes from. Also, at this point of time, there are quite some marketing budget being put behind this. They are out to teach 9W a lesson and when ego/competition is at play, it only helps the customer better.
Being one of the early adaptors of this card, I got the 1200 buck codes in Dec 2011, however, they raised the value to 1500 without even asking for it.
So, while I can't use these on BOM-DEL, I won't exactly blame Citi for it, because I can always use it on a smaller segment and save quite some money still.

The card is good, no doubt - that's why I took it. But it is annoying when you see that the route you could've used can't be used just because of INR 20!
Of course seeing that in light of the INR 1200 limit earlier, it is still better.

And this was in July, so I asked if this is still valid. Then he came back saying it is available until Sep 30. So I make the switch. Now I check my balance and it is not there, and when I query get the stock response from him that it was available until Jun 30.

Out of curiosity - do all Citi support staff sign as "Manager Customer Care"? In my interactions with them in the past couple of years at least, I've always had responses coming from managers. However with some of them, their responses aren't like some senior staff who you'd expect to know something, so I wonder if they are the junior staff just made out to be senior.
