Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles - Cabin Crew & Technical Teams Strike - Expect extreme delays and cancellations
My sister is a TA employee, she had no flights scheduled for today but almost all TA cabin crew has gone on strike as the TA management has been lobbying politicians to pass a bill that makes it illegal for employees in the airline industry to go on strike. Absolutely ridiculous on TA's behalf.
If you have a TA flight today or are connecting in Istanbul, fyi.

Doesn't look good and im supposed to be transiting tomorrow. Their website seems to be down and i don't even want to know how long the lines are for their call center. Is this a one day thing only or have they announced any information how long they will be on strike? This was just what i needed.. Pshhhhh!

There are rumours in facebook that thy.com has been hacked/suffering from service denial attacks and some even wrote that TK management have been sending SMS messages to fire people. Don't know if it's true but usually theres no smoke without fire.

Cyber attacks are confirmed as per Reuters.
THY's website was also hit by a cyber attack and was not working, transport minister Binali Yildirim said, adding 104 flights had been cancelled and he would take "necessary steps" if the issue was not resolved soon.
thy.com at the moment is still down and the link appears to be attempting to redirect to some kind of weird page ("vocepeihmpvhfrpe" subpage) - a browser exploit possibly?

AFAIK, the strike ends at 00:00 tonight, so flights on May 30th shouldn't have too much of a problem. Unless, it is really true that they had fired people through the phone as the Union has announced that they will continue to strike if there is even one layoff related to today's strike.
TA's website was apparently taken down by a Turkish hacker group called redhack.

In which case this (http://www.todayszaman.com/news-281810-turkish-airlines-fires-150-personnel-over-slowdown-strike.html)doesn't look good (media report that THY have fired 150 strikers this evening).
I am in IST now, scheduled to fly out tonight - would much appreciate it if people could update through the day, as I will struggle to surf the web and know I can find FT on my phone...
Thanks
I have a flight at 8 am Istanbul time so heading to airport soon. Have to wait for airport shuttle. On awards travel so hopeful fully no major problem.
Edit counter check in supervisor said strike is over. However there were a few cancellations I saw on the board.
I wasn't able to print my boarding pass using the self service kiosk at the airport. Went through all processes including scanning my passport info. Did hackers hack the self service kiosk too? Will my personal info be jeapordized? Counter person said it is because I am using it over 4 hours before departure. Another person said it is because I already have my seat assignment on biz class. Regardless, does anyone know if I am in danger because of personal info given at kiosk and kiosk may have been hacked?

Sitting in the lounge and waiting for the shower queue to shorten. Had a brief chat with lady in the transit desk and she said things are pretty much normal today. There are some cancelled flights on the screen like Belgrad, Paris, Beirut and Bucharest.
I wonder how much money they are losing when their website has been down for so long? Now would be the time to hire professionals to remake the whole website down to the bone.

Please check this website for announcements about flights.
TK Website is still down.
If your flight is not cancelled and you have a connection with checked baggage, I would check the conveyor belt at your connecting destination instead of going straight to the transit area. Luckily I did as I saw my luggage there and if I didn't re-check my luggage with star alliance airlines, it would not have made it.

According to Bloomberg (http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-05-30/turkish-parliament-bans-airline-strikes-anatolia-news-reports.html), the parliament has passed the law banning airline strikes:
Turkey’s parliament approved a measure banning airline workers from going on strike, Anatolia news agency reported.
The measure was passed as part of a package of laws being debated today at the National Assembly in Ankara, the state-run news service said.
Employees at Turk Hava Yollari (THYAO) AO, or Turkish Airlines, initiated a go-slow action yesterday to protest the measure, causing the cancellation of more than 100 flights, Transportation Minister Binali Yildirim said yesterday. Another 68 flights were canceled today, Anatolia reported....

Thanks for the tip^. I am unfortunately traveling with them in just a few days and have long layovers. During that time I plan on using tourISTanbul to the fullest extent so I'll have time to check the conveyor belt
