Southwest Rapid Rewards - Wanna Get A Refund!

I did a search for this topic, but could not find any recent info. I booked a WGA fare for my daughter's friend using points one way and cash the other way, which I paid for. (She was going to pay me back. Guess how that worked out). She cancelled last week, and I cancelled the points segment with no problem, but I am stuck with ticketless travel funds in the girl's name for the other portion. Called customer service and told them my sob story, but they said they couldn't help me. There were two other options I was considering, and I thought I'd ask the experts. 1. Can I switch the cash reservation to points, and then cancel? or 2. If I change her fare to a Business Select or Anytime fare and then cancel, will it be "fully refundable" as it says or only refundable for the additional cost over the WGA fare? The website does say "When combining fares, all rules and restrictions apply," which I assume means that the original money is still a WGA fare and not refundable. The girl is going to college an hour from home, so even if I felt generous about giving her the funds, they would not get used. Any advice?

As you probably expect, These are non-refundable, non-transferable funds and WN has thought of all the loopholes. Your only option is to wait a year for the funds to expire and then renew for a $75 fee. The balance beyond the $75 can be used for anyone.

Thanks for your quick reply. So they will take the 75 out of the ticketless travel funds, then I can use the remainder for anybody? I guess that's better than nothing. Thanks again.

Well, I misspoke a little. You will need to pay $75 additional dollars and then the entire current amount will become a LUV voucher which can be used for anyone.

Last I heard, you were right the first time. Has there been a change?

OK, then I am not clear whether you need to pay $75 or simply receive $75 fewer dollars. I actually have never done it.

I was curious and searched the WN site and I can not find a mention of extending TTF's anywhere.

You can also Google/Facebook the friend's name to see if anyone has the same name --- then email them stating you will sell them TTF funds for half the price or something. Sounds crazy, but with a common name, there might be takers.
Or I'd contact her parents and make them pay you back. ;-)

This was from back in February, looks like the $75 is deducted from the original amount. Also once it turns into a LUV voucher, it can be used by anyone.

Thanks longhorn11 for the link. I guess the 75 dollar option will be my plan. Lesson learned--book for others using points only or book anytime fares--no cash, no WGA fares.

Or you can book old-style "1.0-1.5" Awards, either left over from pre-3/1/11 or newly generated (especially through the "Airtran 2-step").
Those go back to the original award holder w/o penalty.
