On SouthWest website, if you want to change your companion pass you have to mail in your old one to request a change
The truth is I just called in at 800-435-9792 and changed the companion on the phone. It happen instantly. Southwest representatives even mentioned that I can change my companion online however I don't know the site to do that. Does anyone know how to check the name of your companion via your Rapid Rewards account. :)
The Companion Pass is not transferrable. However, the Member may change his/her designated Companion and request issuance of a new Companion Pass up to three (3) times within the validity period of the Pass. Requests must be made in writing and accompanied by the current Companion Pass card, which will be cancelled, to: Southwest Airlines, Rapid Rewards, P.O. Box 36657, Dallas, TX 75235. In addition, please include the new Companion's name, address, phone number, social security number, and date of birth. Allow 21 business days for processing.

View your Companion Pass Status page (http://www.southwest.com/account/rapidrewards/companion-status?ss=0). It is toward the bottom.
One thing you'll see on that page if you expand the "Details" section is:
To change your Companion Pass designation, call 1-800-435-9792 and provide the Southwest Customer Representative your Companion's information. Once your companion is designated, you'll receive your new Companion Pass card in the mail within ten business days.

So... if I change my companion pass over the phone, and the new name shows up on my account when viewing on southwest.com, does that mean I am good to go as far as making a reservation (and a flight) or must I wait until the new CP arrives in the mail and is actually in the hand of the new CP designee?
If the name is entered by phone, the verification of correct person is going to come with normal government ID at check in and security, not by holding a SWA companion pass card. I can count on one hand the times we have been asked to produce the CP at check in, but then I've never changed the name in which it was originally issued.

I've had them say this to me as well. It's simply not true.
