I would like to find out how to get to Bengaluru, India the cheapest way possible. I've never traveled on plane or outside the US. It would probably be cheapest on a plane I guess? But what is the cheapest way? Is there any way for free? :)

Thanks

Yes, flying will almost certainly be cheapest.

When are you planning to travel? Where are you starting from?

Just putting your origin, destination and dates into Kayak.com is a good place to start. If you're flexible about your dates or origin airport you can use http://matrix.itasoftware.com to search flights from multiple airports (comma-separated) and search a full month of possible dates at once.

If you have a few months to plan and good credit (and you're not planning to travel on inflexible dates at the busiest times of year), you can potentially get there almost free (give or take about $100 in taxes) using frequent flyer credit card signup bonuses. That said for US-india you'd need to sign up for at least two different credit cards and in general be willing to jump through quite a few hoops. Post again if you want more details on this option.

Since this and other FT forums are not the places for fare requests and given you've never travelled internationally before I would steer you towards a good TA who can walk through the least expensive options.

Good luck!

I would steer you towards a good TA who can walk through the least expensive options.Given that the OP's request is quite simple, it seems unlikely that a travel agent could tell them anything useful that Kayak.com wouldn't. It's even less likely that a TA would tell them about the possibility of getting there free with CC bonuses.

At any rate, usually with threads like this we never hear from the OP again, so it matters little.

one hit wonders ;) Is it just me, or does BT forum attract them

EmailKidEh, at least this one actually seemed to want budget travel advice, as opposed to e.g. the people looking for "cheap" business-class airfare.

Anyway, better here than MR deals.

I have to disagree with you on this. OP has never traveled by plane before and likely doesn't have a passport. Kayak and its multitude of code shares and connection options could easily overwhelm an inexperienced traveler. A TA can sit them down and explain about passports, visas, insurance, seat selection, etc, etc

Let them get bitten by the bug. Then they can come back here for you to teach them the ways of the force, filling their mind with your knowledge of FFPs, CC bonuses and other Jedi travel tricks.

Completely agree and is exactly why I made the recommendation to OP. The web is a powerful information tool but like any tool used improperly it can yield unintended results. Good luck to OP at any rate. :)

I think there is no way to get free but if you want to travel, one thing you can do one thing you can book your tickets as early as possible around before one and half month. In this case you can save your money.
