I have accumulated 41K Korean Airlines miles (Skypass). I can add 15K by applying for VISA credit card and also transfer some UR (Chase) or AmEx points if needed. What is the suggestions, recommendation and your experience for the best use?

Be careful when applying for the US bank issued card. I applied for the 15k offer and was approved for the 5K card instead. My credit scores were good and I had the flex card at the time and was giving them 1-2k in spend per month. This happened about 6 months ago. :(

I am not planning to advertise about my site however, I wrote about using Korean Airline miles to fly from US/Canada to Hawaii or Mexico for 30k miles (http://ucanflyfree2.com/2012/05/12/use-korean-airline-miles-to-fly-to-mexicohawaii/)

And Use Korean Airline Skymiles to fly from US/Canada to Alaska for 20k miles (http://ucanflyfree2.com/)

Wonder if what city will you be flying from?

If you need two tickets you can transfer 20k from Ultimate reward and get 2 round-trip tickets to Hawaii

Amex does not partner with Korean Air, so you cannot transfer your membership rewards to them.

I would look at Korean Air's award chart and plan accordingly.

I personally would not fool with a 15k credit card offer. Use Chase UR to fill the gap and have a fun trip!

That's correct. I recently booked 4 tickets @ 20k each. 2 nice things about Korean's redemption on Alaska:
1. Family Plan pooling is allowed! (Yep!)
2. You can include a stopover in Alaska. So, I'm going to Fairbanks first and then to Anchorage...all using just 20k.

So all in all, a very good deal. Korean's nice that way!

That is awesome that they let you stop over in Alaska
So Alaska is considered US too, wow this is the best value to fly to Alaska from a US city then

I guess I can do like Austin - Seattle (Stop-over) - Anchorage, then this is great
I will call Korean airline tomorrow to confirm

Can you do this with Delta/Skypass points or do they have to be KAL points?

What really is a good deal is the 40K F award on Alaska, MCO-ANC is over $1,900.

I just called Korean Airline yesterday and they confirmed that Alaska is considered in the same region with the other 48 states and require 20,000 Korean Skypass to fly there
:D Happy Bear spotting

Any one know whether fuel surcharge is required for redemption on AS?

I'd pull up your proposed route(s) on Matrix and see if the AS fare breakdown includes a fuel surcharge. I suspect it won't, and therefore KE won't be collecting one. I also don't see an embedded Q surcharge in the fare I checked, which would be a way for KE to find a fuel surcharge to collect. (That's how KE publishes most of their own fuel surcharges instead of using YQ/YR.)
