MilesBuzz! - Does it matter which airline in an alliance?

Hello from South Africa!

I am about to give up all my hard-earned Delta status now that I am in SAA's hub. I'm having a hard time figuring out what's the smartest thing to do, mile-wise.

I have a United FF number with a small amount of legacy miles (18,000). I have no SAA miles.

Do I create a SAA frequent flyer number and enroll with them? Do I use my United number? Heck I even have some miles on Brussels.

Best to earn miles on one specific airline in one or two alliances depending on how much you travel. For those who travel 200K+ miles a year it works best to have two different accounts like one United (1K) and one American (EXP).

Since it seems like you don't travel much just use specific Star Alliance account specifically the United one since you already have miles in the account. If you plan on flying SAA more than United then I'd say use the SAA account.
