I booked RT on LH FRA AMS and separate flight that included also includes AMS FRA (multi city itin). Reason I did this was because I booked online and separating flights like this made the fare thousands of dollars cheaper.

I now have two tickets for AMS to FRA on the same day on the same flight.

I was planning to throw away the AMS FRA on the RT flight. However now I am thinking if it's possible to check in for both seats, muse both seats and get miles for both seats?

Anyone know?

One of the two tickets will be automatically cancelled by the airline

Ooofff... Hope they cancel the round trip ticket on the Fra to Ams itin ... If they cancel the Ams to Fra on my Ams Fra Lin Fra ticket I'm in trouble I guess

They might email you to request this. However, if you fly on two tickets with two seats, why not? In the good old days I once had booked four seats in the F class cabin on four separate paid tickets. Some strange looks from the crew at the very beginning, however, why not?

This flight manager, (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/miles-more-lufthansa-austrian-swiss-other-partners/1338828-terrible-experience-yvr-station-manager-flying-first.html) along with a couple of posters, will be able to explain to you why this is completely impossible and that you should have known better! ;)

On the other hand: this might explain why LH is now complaining that often there wouldn't be any space left for last minute first class customers, therefore requiring them to limit the possibility to upgrade from business to first...

What an unfortunate user name to choose - the Dutch will have a good laugh at you.

The dupe check will alert the issuing office that there are two bookings. You can choose to retain both, but that needs one ticket to be reissued with a EXST or CBBG rename.
