Central America - Weather in July in Quetzaltenango / Xela ?

Is anyone familiar with the weather in July in Quetzaltenango? According to all the data I've seen, it is supposed to be rainy and cloudy, with 20 days of clouds out of an entire month; storms every day; average 3 hours of sun per day (no fog), lows in 50s, highs about 80.

Yet the data contradicts itself by saying that the averge rainfall is 2 inches (or less) per month, which works out to a wee pittance of precipitation every day, and certainly not enough to keep the city overcast.

I'm in Florida and we average almost 8 inches of rain in July, lots of afternoon storms and downpours, but still, plenty of sun.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

The description you give in your first paragraph is accurate, although I think 80 for a high is incorrect. It's more like in the low 70s. It's misleading to look at average rainfall per month, because almost all the rain falls from May through September. The info I'm seeing shows about 6.7 inches of rain for July. You should see sunny to partly cloudy skies in the morning. Rain moves in in the afternoon for a couple of hours and evenings turn cool. That's a typical July day there based on my travels.

Averages are meaningless - and I concur with your take on the weather in Xelajú / Xela / Quetzaltenango. Most days it will get cloudy in the afternoon, and start raining mid-afternoon (~3-4 PM iirc). And an occasional night might be a drencher as well. Si, pues.
