EL AL Matmid - Status Match *FROM* ElAl to other airlines

Hi,
did anyone had success in having united airlines match an ElAl status (Gold in my case) via United's status match challange ?

I personally haven't done it, but I've heard of success. But would Gold match to Gold? Something tells me GL should match to Platinum, just in terms of how hard it is to qualify.

It can be done quite easily if you are a frequent traveler between US and Israel by contacting the UA office in Tel Aviv.

FYI

just enrolled in the DELTA skymiles challange, and received GOLD medallion status based on my ElAl gold status.
