Hello

I want to ask you guys about the passenger card for Australia. 14 years ago I made some stupid things and stole some computers. I got a fine for around $500 and thats it.
Every time I have been in australia I had to explain this and I feel really stupid talking about this 14 year old thing. So my questions are now.

1. Is this fine actually enough that I have to enter YES to "Do you have any criminal conviction" on the passenger card?

2. I have crossed YES before, if I crossed NO the next time, would they actually see it in their computer that I said yes last time or don't they register that? I had to answer questions each time, so it dosen't seem like they keep record of that.

Thanks.

I am pretty sure this would be flagged on the system from past visits. There is plenty they know on the computer without the card but I think they like to see if you are truthful or not for one thing.. YMMV.

The redundant questions are deliberate and serve a purpose. Contradicting yourself would lead to some complications. Doubtful that they'll conclude you are coming to Oz to steal computers, and you know from past experience that it doesn't deny you entry as a tourist.

If your record has been clean since go back to the clerk of the court and get the form to have your record either expunged or have the conviction dismissed. No need to have this hanging over your head the rest of your life. Then just take a photo of the document and check no on the form in the future. If they question your no answer show them a copy of the record being expunged.

Good luck.
