Hi!

I'm taking my family to Corfu soon, and I found some good Hertz rates on the Aegean booking engine.

However, I'm not sure if we really need a rental car, and renting a car may give us additonal problems with booster seats (I've got plenty of kids). So, I have a few questions to anybody with some Corfu experience:

1. Is Hertz and the Corfu police strict about seating kids in booster seats?

2. At the Corfu airport, are there taxis available with room for at least six passengers?

3. What would the fare be for a taxi from the airport to e.g. Agios Gordios or Acharavi?

I've only been to Greece once before, on Crete, so I'm really not sure what to expect or what the best solution would be,

Thanks!

Haven't been to Corfu since 1994, but I can assure you that there are no taxis anywhere in Greece (yet) that can take more than 4 passengers. Also (unfortunately for passenger security) Greek police never minds "free" sitting of the kids. Finally, the price (one way) for the taxi should be around 0.6 Euro/km, plus the initial fee of 1-2 Euro, plus a few Euro (3?) for taking the cab at the airport, plus a few cents (0.3 Euro each) for your luggage. This would make the transfer cost around 15-20 Euro, but in reality times two, as you'd need two cabs.

Enjoy Corfu, it's really beautiful!

Thanks for the reply!

I think we will rent a car. On my previous Greek visit, we paid at least twice that amount for our taxi. Plus we'd like to see some of the island. Aegean has a good deal with Hertz.

...On my previous Greek visit, we paid at least twice that amount for our taxi...Well, when calculating the price I didn't get into account potential less-than-absolutely-honest cab drivers that often wait in airports. ;)
I agree with you a car rental should be the best solution given the number of kids that you "carry" with you: children and freedom have their price...

I will be traveling to Corfu with my new bride in October. However, the rates I'm seeing from Hertz aren't all that impressive. Are you using some type of special booking code? Perhaps it's just the dates we'll be there. The best I'm finding is around $35 US / day for an automatic. This is way better than what Hertz was offering.

October is shoulder season, but automatics are still somewhat special and luxurious (no small cheap cars) in Greece, even more so on islands. However, this is not the place to learn to drive a stick shift. Can you get a better weekly rate, usually requiring five days or more? To me, US$35 per day doesn't sound that bad, especially if you won't be paying many extra charges. Do you have a credit card that you're sure covers rental cars overseas?
