Practical Travel Safety Issues - German Security - MUC - Rigidity of Liquids in Bag

How rigid are the Germans with enforcing the liquids policy, particularly contact lens solution? I've read that contact lens solution can only be carried if it's in a container less than 100ml. I'm used to TSA's policy of not having restrictions on contact lens solution. So I carry the large-size bottle every time I travel. Should I put it in my check-in bag when I leave MUC?

Also, is placing the 100ml gels/liquids in a 1L plastic bag and having them enter the x-ray machine separately part of the German airport culture? (As in, do people in Germany do this naturally?) Traveling the past few years in the US, I just leave my plastic bag in my carry-on, and let TSA do a secondary if they please.

I also will be traveling with 10-12 sports gels. In the US, I don't put them in the 1L bag. They're in a separate section of my carry-on. Should I cram them in the 1L bag when passing through MUC?

When in Rome, do as the Romans do. Just would like to do as the Germans do when I pass through MUC next week (despite the fact I find the whole liquid thing absurd). :)

MUC is a great airport, and security is friendly, quick, and efficient. If you have liquids outside the bag, or no bag, they will try and find you a bag before sending you to the baggie vending machine. If you have larger liquids, they will try to see if you can go back to check your items into your luggage without missing your flight.

I never take contact lens fluid larger than 100ml. LHR for instance doesn't allow it, and I don't bother trying from Germany or France. I actually have a smaller size I purchased in the US which I put into my baggie.

I would recommend putting all liquids into your bag, and removing your bag at the checkpoint. But if you do fail to do so, you won't be screamed or shouted at or belittled.

I was asked to put gels (toothpaste, sports cream, sunblock) into the 1L bag. Also they threw out my (more than half empty) 250mL contact lens solution bottle saying it was not allowed.
