I have a business trip planned in Montreal for June 11-15 and have therefore been getting travel advisories about the unrest there (the Occupy movement and the student protests), but I can not find out exactly where the protests have been so I can avoid those areas. If anyone can help shed some light on this, it would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Its not really a big deal here day to day... I work downtown and it has had no impact on me. I guess there is a chance you could get stuck behind a march because of traffic etc..

An issue to consider also is the F1 race on June 10th. Hotels and airports will be busy that weekend.

You should also follow @SPVM or #manifencours http://twitter.com/#!/SPVM the police are tweeting up to date info about any protests and traffic problems.

If you gave me some more details (hotel, area of meetings etc) I could give you more specific info.

Thanks for the help! I will definitely start following on twitter. The race is actually the reason we are not arriving until June 11th...basicaly all hotels were sold out or not accepting corporate rates. I will be at the Hilton Bonaventure and working on Metcalfe. We are planning on walking to and from the office, so traffic won't be an issue except for to and from the airport.

The Hilton is a couple of blocks away from any location on Metcalf.

If you need a spot for lunch I really like Domion Tavern (http://www.dominiontavern.com/)located at 1243 Metcalf. you need a reservation but they are on opentable.

The daytime protest marches are 100% peaceful. At night the crowd can get a little rowdy and the police have been getting more assertive in shuting things down. Use common sense and avoid any large gatherings of people if they are throwing things at the cops ;)

Traffic can be pretty bad in the downtown core. And it got a little worse now because of a large sink hole (http://www.montrealgazette.com/timetable+downtown+sinkhole/6677543/story.html)on Sherbrooke street Leave lots of time if you have any critical appointments. Often faster to walk or use a bixi bike

Ows is nothing compared to what happens when the Canadiens win a championship. But that's unlikely to happen anytime soon. :)

Thanks for the restaurant recommendation and the heads up on the sink hole!

Just to update: The protesters were in front of my hotel (Hilton Bonaventure) when I arrived Monday, apparently due to the International Economic Forum, and we could hear them one day outside the office, but there were no issues.
