Air New Zealand Air Points - Is the Airpoints forum needed any more?

Given the way NZ have treated its long and loyal customers and what looks like a very big drop off in members do we really need this online forum for Air New Zealand?

Just a thought !!

I agree. There now can be not a single post for a few days which has never happened in the history of this forum. The only few posts were started by flyers who belong to other programs trying to redeem on NZ metal because they know how high NZ fares can be so they think they are getting a great bargain. Unfortunately for Airpoints members, redemptions are dependent on the fares for sale.

One of my relatives tried to claim some missing Airpoints the other day for a standalone Virgin Australia flight only was told that you can only earn Airpoints when you book with NZ with a NZ flight number. They still can't get it right 1 year into the partnership with Virgin. And they still address DJ as Pacific Blue.

Airpoints is really a joke. Let's forget about it.

Have to disagree on this one. In their attempt to creat a simple FFP, NZ has created one with the complexity of the UK tax system.

However, the number of purchasing options, upgrade options, partner options and Star alliance permutations generally means that you won't be eligible for any points anyway.

Yes it is because although the Forum title is Air Points people come on here with questions regarding travel on NZ not just about the woeful, market leader in woefulness, frequent flyer program.

I wish there were some decent earning and redemption loopholes for me to find..

It does seem pretty dead. I wonder if Air NZ have noticed? Or are bothered?

The forum will serve a function for some visitors and that function will inevitably change over time, as will the tone and nature of those using it. Just as you can exert ultimate control over your television set content by changing the channel so you can choose to visit, or not to visit this forum, or even to visit but not contribute. Suggesting that the forum be closed for everybody else because of your personal views is hubris.

Couldn't agree more. Nobody is compelled to use this forum or post in it. The arrogance of some posters in suggesting that this forum be closed for everyone simply because they no longer find it relevant for themselves is nothing short of astounding. Indeed, one could even say it is on par with the arrogance some of these same posters have accused the airline of.

I think that this forum is actually more important than ever.

Prospective new occasional leisure travellers can consult this forum and discover that Airpoints is a lousy program for them, with terrible earning rates and no prospect of ever achieving status.

Meanwhile prospective frequent flyers in the premium cabins can consult this forum and learn that Airpoints has in the last two years removed more benefits for high value customers than any other frequent flyer program in the world, and has rendered Airpoints earning opportunities virtually worthless on any route other than LAX/SFO/YVR and LHR in Business Premier, as well as removing any worthwhile use for those points anyway.

The forum shouldn't be closed, but there should be a sticky for newbys showing just how Airpoints compares with Qantas Frequent Flyer and Virgin Velocity.

Prospective new occasional leisure travellers...
This category of customer will never achieve useful status of any kind with any airline program: There is a hint as to why in the phrase "frequent flyer".

I'll stop posting on this thread from now, because not doing so will probably achieve little. It's all yours - enjoy

For the lurkers out there like me, I've found this forum useful. Just leaned about the "oneup" program. I also signed up for free Airpoints account from information gleened from this forum. ^

These forums also serves as a general information forum for airlines as well.

Hook, line and sinking airline :D

Reckon this has got more comments and views in last 3 days than anything posted on this forum for quite a while.

O course you do not close it as people will think Airpoints is an exclusive club limited to selected members who want only the best an FFP can offer - oops here I go again, sorry not here to have fun and enjoy life, but to bow before our masters in NZ and tell them how greathey are:p

I really don't give a stuff about the forum or NZ, still have points to use, 3 upades that will lapse (yes 3 not a typo), but loyalty is a 2 way street. Emirates best value J for us to Aussie. Islands just whoever (but do miss 772 J):(

People who can buy airpoints at 1 per NZ$ can still use this forum to post how much it cost them to upgrade.

Then they can compare minimum successful bids for these one ups.

Since I cannot purchase Airpoints Dollars at that rate I'll simply watch on with some weird amusement ...

The issue I have with Emirates is the pretty restricted timetable, I have flown heavily with them in the past when I based over there but since I came here I've tended to avoid them.

I wonder if you lack this ability because NZ put it in the too hard basket, or it's deliberate-I presume non-New Zealanders are more likely to fork out for business class than New Zealanders.
