I'm going off to university this fall for business. It seems people say all the time that they would hate having the lifestyle of constantly being on planes and staying in hotels, where as those are my two favourite places on Earth. I'm just curious, if it doesn't offend, what are some of occupations held by those on this forum? Thanks

This is something better asked in Milesbuzz or one of the airline forums, I think. Luxury Hotels is more of a Q&A forum for people looking to stay in a luxury hotel .... there is no expectation that you spend every night of your life in one, and even if you are a road warrior then you are unlikely to be staying in the sort of places discussed here.

I am an RN. I used to be a travel nurse for 6 years so The wife and I have been to every state except Maine and Alaska. Now I am working as a Staff ER nurse in SEA but as a nurse I work 3 12 hr days a week so it leaves a lot of travel time. I can set up my schedule so that I have 8 days off in a row without taking vacation time. And then when I have to use my vacation time I can take weeks at a time. We probably travel some where at least once a month if not more. Since we have seen most major cities and national landmarks in the US we are starting to travel more internationally. That is why I love this forum, it makes it so much more affordable to travel!

Hmm, I don't think I would say this forum makes it much more affordable. I'm not sure I even knew about Aman resorts before visiting here. ;)

I found out about Virtuoso from FT, which has save me a fair few quid (or got me a fair few quid of extra benefits) over recent years.
The real savings come from wangling cheap airline miles via other FT forums to get to the hotels in the first place!

I'm a consultant in the healthcare space traveling every week. while my travel is a grind during the week (back of the bus when not upgraded and normally a business hotel of sorts like Courtyard/Four Points/the occasional Westin if the client will allow), but I try and only use my miles for international vacations up front and my salary allows for the occasional spend on luxury properties while on vacation, which this forum has been invaluable for :)

This topic is a bit tricky for a Moderator. I do feel confident that the Luxury Hotels Forum is not the proper venue.
I am going to move this thread to the Community Buzz Forum. I hope that I have made the right call. If not, I know that our Community Mods will find the proper venue (not TravelBuzz...please;)) for this Thread.
Thanks...

I believe that the question was specifically put forward to the luxury forums, possibly to ascertain what sort of occupations people have that allow them to pursue such luxury. As such, the spirit of the question will not be retained if it is moved anywhere else.

In terms of travel neither of us does it for business (much) and we prefer to save all our $$ and miles for extended trips, at least a month, maybe more, traveling all over a continent in a low/moderate budget style with splurges every now and again. We don't fritter away $$ for a weekend here or an overnight there.
If we need to get away from home we have a sailboat we can go sleep on.

I love this question, and have been wondering the same thing about all these people who must have tons of time on their hands.
I am a financial analyst, previously working in the direct mail industry for catalog companies and then Chase (there are whole teams of people who try to scientifically figure out who to send all that junk mail to). I then went into market research, which I LOVED, but the JPMorgan Chase merger ended that.
I now do financial analysis at a state college in NJ and teach a first year seminar course -"How to Succeed as a Business Major, From College to Career". I try to introduce first year students to the wide range of career options that are available to business students. "You don't have to be a CPA if you major in accounting", etc, which is another reason I love the OP's question.
I also do wedding/event photography on the side.
I've been collecting miles since the pudding guy, but really just got back into it last year. I love affordable luxury hotels, such as the Four Seasons on Lanai...!

I run an independent rental car company in Durham, NC that rents to the customers other companies will not. This means a lot of rental for cash to people who are borderline (or sometimes just plain) criminals. It's decent money and decent hours but not what I've dreamed of doing. Technical entertainment (audio, video, lighting). In my 20's I toured with rock and CW groups - 28 cities in 30 days. I saw every major airport at 6 am by the time I was 25.
Sounds exciting but after 3 days I learned to sleep standing up. It was the old days where I checked my luggage in when I left home and picked it up when I arrived at home. Someone else picked it up at the airport and got it transported to the room, then picked it up and checked out of the rooms and transported it to the airport.
Before FF programs stared we were treated well by the airlines, buying 30 seats for 6 flights a week for about 4 to 6 months a year. That kind of buying power fills several planes a year. Even with that revenue I would still run into GA's that were jerks - and this was in the late 70's before deregulation. Shenanigans have been around for a long time.
I learned how to get the edge no one else got. This site has a lot of people who are doing the same and sharing their ways to do the same thing. It is a great resource for anyone who travels and wants an edge.
That kind of travel gets old, i.e. after 30 it becomes less appealing.
