Most of the hotels are fully booked on June 13 - 17 (Those are the only dates I checked. Other dates around there maybe booked as well.). Anyone knows what's going on in Rio during those dates? I can't find any major events listed on the web.

Thanks.

Probably Rio Earth Summit which starts soon after. "world leaders, along with thousands of participants from governments, the private sector, NGOs and other groups, will come together to shape how we can reduce poverty, advance social equity and ensure environmental protection on an ever more crowded planet to get to the future we want. "

Also, 6th World Youth Congress finishes June 13.

The actual Earth Summit is June 20-22. Prices were jacked up for it http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-18100360 You said "most" hotels are filled for your dates. Once the summit starts I think it's safe to say virtually all will be filled. I worked in Rio when there was one big conference, and some folks ended up staying in motels (by-the-hour places), as apparently will be done during the summigt.

It doesn't seem to take much to fill the main hotels in Copacabana/Ipanema. You have looked in Flamengo, Botafogo, etc.? Barra de Tijuca may have rooms, but it is a ways out. Brazil is not cheap, Rio even less so, and during and near a big event prices even higher.

Thanks guys. I knew about the World Youth Congress and Earth Summit, but couldn't find anything happening in between the two.

A LOT of people arriving for the Earth Summit. ;)

Only the main events happen June 20-22. It officially starts 13 June I believe.
