Hilton HHonors - favorites for hilton for snorkeling/scuba?View Full Version : favorites for hilton for snorkeling/scuba? silviar May 23, 12, 5:35 pm is conrad maldives good for snorkeling/scuba? what are other favorites? thanks MrColdShower May 23, 12, 6:31 pm I would consider Hilton Taba in Sinai. If you don't want to stay in Egypt, it's no problem to walk across the border from Eilat and stay at the Hilton Queen of Sheba hotel. I believe we used Aqua Sport to arrange our snorkeling trip, and they did take us to one place in the Red Sea that was spectacular. KenTarmac May 24, 12, 2:01 am The diving around Hilton Waikoloa village is really good. If I remember correctly we booked with Red Sail Sports. The old lava tubes and coral formations around the big island are amazing. Just don't stand on the reef like one idiot in our group did. I was so pissed to look over and see him standing on the coral screwing around with his dive computer or BC or whatever ... rapidex May 24, 12, 2:16 am Hilton Arcadia Phuket,Thailand. The diving on the Similan Islands is just fantastic.Dive shop at the front of the hotel is very helpful.^ ollieinmelbourne May 24, 12, 2:46 am Hilton in Moorea. Especially from an OWB. Truly awesome. Deepd1ver7 May 24, 12, 6:32 am Conrad Maldives is fantastic but does kind of depend on what you are comparing it against. The scuba is great, and at the right time of the year you have a good chance of seeing Manta and Whale sharks...if you like the bigger stuff. Personally I dont think the reefs are as exciting as some parts of the World, but I am comparing against some of the Worlds best diving.....Galapagos, Cocos Islands, Sulawesi....so perhaps not fair. I have logged over 700 scuba dives, have been to Conrad the last 4 years in a row, dive twice a day every day for 2 weeks, and still love it :-) silviar May 24, 12, 8:28 am Conrad Maldives is fantastic but does kind of depend on what you are comparing it against. Thanks, we have this on our list too, could you snorkel from your OWB? or do you need to take a boat out somewhere? is the diving better than snorkeling? i always heard the water was colder there than say the carribean. thanks for writing. silviar May 24, 12, 8:31 am Conrad Maldives is fantastic but does kind of depend on what you are comparing it against. The Blue Hole of Dahab has incredible snorkling/diving about 100 ft from shore, up to 300 ft deep. It is a little over an hour drive north from the hotels in Sharm including several HH options. Deepd1ver7 May 24, 12, 12:42 pm You can snorkel or scuba on the house reef direct from the island, but I've never done that. I've only ever gone on boat trips to dive sites 5mins to 45mins from The island. They post a schedule before everyday so you know what is planned and can decide if you want to make the trip or not. I hear the house reef snorkelling is very good. beachfan Jul 11, 12, 1:33 am Conrad Maldives is fantastic but does kind of depend on what you are comparing it against. How does the diving compare? I have points in several groups and trying to figure out where to go. (PS How does it compare to Moorea? (if you know)). Thanks in advance! slidergirl Jul 11, 12, 11:21 am thanks, hawaii is a realistic option for us since we live in CA, will check this out Use the public beach access at the Mariott Waikoloa, just down the street from the Hilton. There is some really nice snorkeling right off the beach there. Also drive up to the public beach access at the Mauna Kea - good snorkeling there, too! Hit up Hapuna Beach if you want some fun bodysurfing. Another place that is usually my first place to snorkel on the Big Island (just to get my "snorkel legs" back) is down at Kahaluu Park, in between Kailua-Kona and Keahou. It's a little cove and has rocks that form a little barrier to keep the waves out. I've always seen sea turtles there. flytoeat Jul 11, 12, 2:17 pm Cairns Hilton. Walk 5 minutes to the docks and ride any of numerous options out to the Great Barrier Reef. Actually, you don't even need to be in an OWB for snorkeling...there's a long stretch of beach that leads right into the reef. You can literally start snorkeling 50 feet from the shore. It's been a while since I visited the Caribbean, but I definitely did not find the water in Moorea to be cold (we were there in May 2011). If my wife went in without complaining, you know it was quite warm! :D The water around the beach and all out by the OWB's in Moorea is never deeper than 5 or 6 feet, so there's a TON of space to snorkel. Can't speak to the diving facilities...pretty sure that would be a boat ride. The snorkeling seriously was incredible. We used to grab a couple of rolls on our way out of breakfast and feed the fish. They would literally eat right out of our hands! I'll also give a nod to the Hilton in Cairns. The location was perfect for hopping on a tour to the Great Barrier Reef (though the day we went, it was quite rough). Deepd1ver7 Jul 12, 12, 10:55 am Beachfan - sorry, can't help with other chain hotels in the Maldives. I only collect HH and the Conrad has been our choice pick for a winter holiday. It ticks all our boxes. Prior to the arrival of our son 18 months ago, we dived 4 times a year at various locations, but almost always 'liveaboard'. We dived Tahiti years ago, but it's such a long trip from Sweden, I doubt we'd do it again. The diving was amazing. I don't have much info on snorkelling. My own personal research seem to support the fact that house reef at Conrad should be one of the best. Kuredu should also be very good, but the resort isn't anywhere near as sophisticated as Conrad |
