WE have already paid to travel to Malaysia with MAS. My mother in law [94] cannot travel. Not worth claiming on insurance as will cancel out.
We booked directly with MAS.

Anyone had to deal with something like this?

Would like to keep ticket for another time or use it to fly someone else, or even from Malaysia and back.

WE are not travelling until September.

Booking says no show no refund.

Not sure what you mean about no collecting on insurance. if you bought travel insurance it will reimburse the amount you lose on all the tickets. How will this not help?

Get a doctor to say she has gastro-enteritis...that is an allowable reason to cancel and to get reimbursed for.

Contacted MAS and they will refund £90 which is the airport tax.
My mother in law has too many pre-conditions to insure. She has just developed a wet macular degeneration of the eyes. Lost most of her sight in one eye. The other, the doctors say can be saved if her sight worsens and can get her to Moorfields for an injection within 48 hours.

I think it is unfair that MAS or any other airline keep the fare money and then resell the ticket and make another £600, whatever the circumstances for cancellation especially when I only want a name change.

I am thinking of confirming her flight and then a no show therefore not allowing them to re-sell.

I will give the airline one more go as I do not want a refund. Just a change of name [with appropiate fee].

There must be a way.
