US Airways Dividend Miles - US Airways World Premier MasterCard boarding or status benefits?

I was thinking of applying for this card. I travel mostly with Usairways and United. The promotion now gives you 40k bonus miles and gives you 2 miles for every $1 spent on Usairways. Also gives you First Class Check in, Zone 2 boarding and 2 $99 companion tickets each year. Cost is $89.

I have some questions:

1. Does having First Class Check in give you access to the First Class line to go through security or is it just the line to check in to receive your boarding pass?

2. I know that the 40k bonus are not qualifying miles to go towards elite status, but does the 2 miles I get for every $1 spent on Usairways go towards elite status?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Transferred to US Airways forum where there is infinite knowledge of the benefits provided by this card :) .

1. I'm fairly sure that you cannot go through the expedited security.

2. None of the credit card miles count toward preferred unless you spend over $25K annually in which case you get 10K converted from regular miles to preferred.

To follow up on apeortdz's comments, the First Class Check In is only for the US check in process. No security line benefits.

I had that card last year when I did quite a bit of flying on USAirways. The primary benefit, for me, lacking any status, is that it put me in zone 2 for boarding. This meant I could get my 21" rolling suitcase aboard and in the overhead, and meant I would not have any danger of my bag not making a connection.

Subsequently, I used the extra miles for free travel. And dropped the card.

As your questions have already been answered, the one thing I would add is that for some it makes sense to get the miles and drop the card. As someone who does not fly an extreme amount each year, it's a card I actually just keep for the benefits of first class check in, the zone 2 boarding, get 1 lounge pass a year...but the $99 companion certificate for up to 2 additional tix more than offsets the annual fee associated with the card. Usually will go to Cali to visit family each year where first tix can be $400-$500 (or more) and then the additional 2 for my wife an daughter come to $125 a piece (after taxes and such)...

you can also apply for a 2nd card starting around 10 months after opening the first (see blogs and the US CC thread in milesbuzz for more info), then possibly cancel the 1st before annual fee hits.

the 10k bonus miles every year and club pass and companion certs, alone, might make it worth to keep around every year.

One additional thought on the card...keep in mind it also gives you a 5,000 mile discount on reward redemption...and that's per person. For example just booked my wife and daughter reward tix to cali on the same reservation and each of the awards was 5,000 miles less (saved 10,000 miles). Then also booked me and my buddy to Vegas on award tix...same thing saved 5,000 miles per ticket. So between the 4 saved 20,000 miles we would have had to use otherwise.

Is there a baggage fee waiver with this card? Or any card?

No, not on USAIR.

No, not on USAIR.
So one has to be elite to avoid a checked baggage fee?
