Travel with Children - Chicago hotel with kids

Hi all, I'm going to be in Chicago for a few days in early August with 3 kids in tow (2, 2, and 4) and we need to find a place to stay. Right now I'm booked at the Residence Inn O'Hare with a 2-bedroom suite ($209/nt) but it would be nicer to find something in town to avoid all the travel time. Given the age of the kids we need to be either in a large suite or connecting rooms.
Looking at downtown places with 2 bedroom suites, the Sheraton and Westin don't have availability, and the rate for the 4 Seasons was eye-watering. I couldn't find any places that offer guaranteed connecting rooms.
Any suggestions?

Have you tried a Hyatt? Have always found them willing to confirm interconnecting rooms in advance.

... and the Hyatt Regency Chicago (on Wacker Dr) in Chicago has a quite large number of rooms that have interconnecting doors and works out pretty well in situations like this; and the prices are very reasonable (at least if using some discount/negotiated codes) for such a property so very close to shopping on Magnificient Mile/Michigan Ave.

Hyatt give 50% off for a second room for kids anyway, so that should be a good start!

Try the Hotel Sax. I have a friend with 13-, 11- and 7-year-old kids who's been staying there for ages. She raves about the low rates, big rooms and how the staff go out of her way to make her kids feel welcome. (That said, they probably stay there a few days a month, so the staff knows her kids well.)
She's often upgraded to suites, and I've seen at least 3 or 4 different layouts, all of which are roomy enough to fit four or five people.

We have stayed at the Embassy Suites in Chicago with 2 children, and I think that they allow families with 3 children as well. I think we paid something just under $200/night, so that would be comparable to the Residence Inn price, but that was a few years ago.

I highly recommend The Omni on Michigan Ave. It's a suite hotel, so plenty of space and very kid-friendly. Here's my review from Trip Advisor:

Most all hotels will do this. The problem is that the interconnecting rooms disappear quickly. There are so few of them available. But luck is better with big chains than the classic, historic hotels.

that's not my experience - Hyatt have IME been consistently good about it. We stayed at Disneyland California (of all places where you might reasonably expect this service) and I had to call them repeatedly to confirm the assignment - they only said yes for sure 3 days out.
