I'd like to, but it doesn't look like I'll be able to make it factoring in travel time from CBR and work. :(

OMG, I'm tearing my hair out at missing this opportunity. Too far away from SYD. Dammm. But thanks RedRoo for offering.
It'd be easier to do a short drive to see the assembly process. ;-)

Guys I think there may still be a seat or two available - send a PM to Red Roo if you're keen. Surely I'm not the only one who put their hand up for BNE? :o

Alas, I will be at OzFest or I would have sent an immediate PM!
Will it be on the tarmac at MEL in the evening? If so I might be able to see it as we taxi past!

There might be another way: Australian Business Traveler is also giving away chances to visit the dreamliner in Sydney:
Just to pick up from the post above: yep, Australian Business Traveller has an 'access all areas' guided tour of the 787 in Sydney on Monday 28th, hosted by Boeing.
There are 10 spots available for guests of AusBT, with the tour starting at 2.30pm.
(You’ll also need to be located in Sydney or be willing to travel to Sydney for the Dreamliner tour.)
The contest closes at 6pm EST today (Thursday May 24) so be quick!
I had the privilege of touring the 787 in BNE this afternoon. Pics are posted to here: http://787bne.blogspot.com.au/

Thanks to RedRoo, I was able to take a tour of the 787 Dreamliner this morning. You can see my photos at Qantas Dreamliner 787 Dreamtour

The experience was a unique 'money can't buy opportunity' (unless you buy a 787, I guess?) and one that I thoroughly enjoyed. That said, clearly is was a Boeing roadshow and I desperately wanted to see more Qantas! There were JQ and QF crew stationed at the bottom and top of the stairs, but once aboard it was over to Boeing reps.
Perhaps I'm spoilt but after experiencing the A380s hard product, I found it difficult to get excited over Boeing's demo Business class. I'm certain when it has QF's hard product, it will be far more impressive. If it does represent JQ's new Business than it'll be a vast improvement.
The striking aspects were the electro-chromatic windows that crew can control which much larger than the A380s and the large overhead lockers. As I wasn't on a flight I can't comment on the cabin pressure or noise in flight. The aircraft did feel like it had a great sense of space, but I dare say it could be due to the way it had been configured.
Overall, it's great to have more, advanced additions to the QF/JQ fleet. Compared to US legacy carriers, or many in Europe we should be absolutely grateful with Qantas group's continued investment in its fleet, in addition to its hard and soft products that continue to be superior.

I do hope that passengers can also control these electronic windows. Crew having absolute control of windows throughout the flight is not on.

That's a horrid thought! I definitely need control of the window myself - I take a window seat because I like looking out of the window.

There are individual controls at each window. The example where the over-ride would be used might be when coming into landing - instead of harrassing everyone to lift their window shades the FA simply presses a button and all the window shades open.

Correct. On BA in NF, the FAs have to press the individual control button to open the window shades. On the Dreamliner, it can be controlled by the pax or the crew for take off and landing. It was, however, made mention by the Boeing reps that on "night flights where you are flying in daylight, the crew can stop that one passenger who keeps their windowshade open disturbing other sleeping passengers."

Although, perhaps the half-tint will allow for a view out without flooding the cabin with sunlight?
