Passengers flying on airlines including Ryanair over the Jubilee bank holiday are facing the threat of disruption because of a series of strikes by baggage handlers at Stansted Airport.

A dispute over rotas means that the first of a series of stoppages will take place from 5.30am today (Wednesday May 23) to 5.30am on Thursday May 24.

Strikes will also take place from 5.30 am on Saturday May 26 until Monday May 28, and from Saturday June 2 until Tuesday June 5 - the bank holiday.

I know trip insurance is a popular product in the UK. Would it cover events like this if you're stranded or need to be rerouted on another carrier?

I would hope so, but you never know...this certainly is not an act of God... Hopefully people can get rerouted to other London airports or something...between the US holiday and UK bank holiday, I'm sure many will be traveling.

Ryanair have already announced that all flights will be operating although they may not be able to take checked baggage.

Nice...so will they refund prepaid fees? Somehow I doubt they'll relax carry on restrictions...

Depends on the insurance and if you knew about the possibilty of a strike before you booked the trip.
