I know it's a short flight but:

1. Is the lounge in Danang ok?
2. Is any food offered on board?
3. Is it worth 80 usd more than Y?

Thanks!

I flew Y on this route. It's a short flight less than 1 hour, so definitely not worth $80. I don't remember seeing a lounge. There's a Burger King at the departure gates area.

There is a lounge which was quite poor. They did have a beer in the (warm) refrig... maybe 333? No food that I remember.

The one thing that I like about VN C is the van* upon arrival and your bags always come out first so that you are out the door with bags when the Y pax are entering the carousel area.

*At least that's for arrival at airports with apron positions.

Yeah, why not. It's always interesting comparing different C products - to put everything into perspective.

The relative benefit of flying C for domestic VN compares well with, for example, international C within Europe. C with VN gets wider seats/more leg room. European C often gets you the same or almost exactly the same seats. Nasty as it might sound, I value getting away from VN Y pax more than I do European Y pax.

Even comparing to other Asian domestic flights, VN is one of a very few carriers that serve booze (IIRC full bar on SGN-HAN trunk route and at least beer/wine on all other flights).

Unless booze is the deciding factor (I am not confirming it's served), I would say VN is probably the worst of all the major South East Asian non-budget airlines. Lousy seats, poor service and totally disorganized is how I would describe them. Only thing nice about VN is the uniform for their female FAs.

Their fading green seats are the most unappealing I have seen (apart from those on MH aging B737-400 which is now being phased out) and the cabin looks too gloomy to me. Even UA domestic F looks more exciting. I just cannot imagine why anyone would pay an extra $80 for that 'experience' unless money doesn't matter at all.

If one want to 'experience' something new and exciting, I would suggest the new Garuda. Even on a short domestic hop in Y; they provide pre-take off drinks, wet tissues,a hot meal plus and personal tv at every seat. On VN domestic Y, they give you a funny look if you ask for any drink other than water.

Thanks everyone! I bought a J ticket for SGN-Nha Trang and I will tell you what I think. In the end it was only 300k more expensive than Y, so I figured I would give it a try!

Now that is a short hop. I didn't even know they did business class on that route - they certainly didn't when I last flew it.

I thought C was decent on VN as it really wasn't that much more, you get more baggage allowance and I picked the widebody flights so that made it worthwhile.

A321 aircraft, 2 x 2 seating, basically equivalent to A320/B737 US F or Australian J Domestic seating.

Very ordinary domestic lounges in HAN and SGN.

In-flight OK, attentive service, choice of meals on meal time flights, 1 western, range of non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks.

For the price, a good C/J product for domestic market and earns 125% Skyteam points.

Should I expect beer/wine on SGN-Nha Trang as well??

it's a very short flight, they may serve a snack and have beer available in J, no idea about Y.
