Southwest Rapid Rewards - Cancel First Leg of Round Trip

I am holding a Round trip ticket on SW. I want to cancel the flights to my destination and buy point to point tickets with a stopover to my original destination and keep the return so I don't lose my earlybird checkin or have to pay more for the return.

Since SW really only provides one way tickets, would think this is possible but, on the web, it only allows me to cancel the entire itinerary. Will I have success cancelling over the phone with a SW representative??
