A friend is flying NK on Wednesday LBE/FLL on an A319. He says the seat map shows about 70 seats unassigned. He's considering paying for a seat. If he dosen't, and checks in at the airport, will they at least ask him if he wants an aisle or window, if available, or will they just give him a random seat period.

With 70ish seats open, when pax start checking in online at 12:30 PM tomorrow, will the system start assigning middle seats to single travelers in rows that have 3 open together, or is he more likely to get at least an aisle/window?

Does anybody have an idea how the loads are out LBE? I wonder if he should just skip buying a seat, and hope the plane isn't too full, and just sit wherever.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanx!

Let us know what happens.

I think you get assigned a seat (crapshoot) but if you have charisma and a friendly agent, you can get a different seat if it's available.

But not sure.

I'd pay and try to get a big front seat or exit row....

Well if your friend uses an agent to check in to get a window or aisle Spirit will charge him for using the agent (will also charge IIRC a $5 fee to use the kiosk). OLCI is free but it may be that it will assign him "whatever" seat. I guess he could inquire at the gate and hope a GA will be kind to him.

After I posted, I re-read the fees and saw the $5 for airport check-in, so that brings the $14 seat down to a difference of $9.

He's whining to me now, that he HATES to sit in the back and wait for pax to get off in front of him. Wow! It's making me NUTZ! He should just pay for the darn seat already!

This whole thing has made me realize more than ever how much I take for granted my Delta Medallion benefits!! :)

He's gonna check the online seat map again tonight and make a decision at some point.

When I heard about NK I also realized how much AA is giving me in benefits.

Assuming this flight has already happened, but I doubt their computer would randomly put single travelers in middle seats. It would seem more likely that the single traveler would either get the next empty seat, or they would get either a window or isle so as to leave 2 seats together for people not traveling alone.
