I have a trip coming up in July that I booked for me, my wife, and our 2yo daughter - all on a single reservation. At the time of booking, we had three seats together (MC non-refundable). I checked today, and our three seats on both flights have been changed... none of us are sitting together and it seems to be a full flight. I don't understand how VX thinks a 2yo can sit alone in a middle seat. I called, and the very friendly (but useless) customer service rep said all other seats were reserved and she couldn't change it and my best bet was to try again at the airport. Uggh... I asked her to cancel my ticket, but since it is non-refundable I'll be given a voucher for the refund that expires in 12 months and I don't have any plans to fly VX in the next 12 months... I'd much rather have the money back (since the VX computer screwed my reservation). :(

I asked about upgrading to a refundable ticket and then canceling... the agent liked the idea and put me on hold for about 10 minutes while she researched, but it looks like I'll only be refunded the upgrade cost, not the full price...

Anyone have any great ideas? Disputing this with my CC seems like an abuse of the dispute system.

All airlines hold back seats for day of departure rearranging. It's called "under airport control"
Seats always get rearranged for families to sit near one another and other reasons.
Too bad no one told you this . You could have kept your ressie
No airline will allow a 2 yo to sit without their parent.

Thanks! I still have my reservation, as I don't want to get stuck with a voucher for $2600 that expires in 12 months - as, I will probably not use it. If I could get the cash back on my CC, I would take it in a heartbeat!

I feel like the flight is going to turn out like last week's episode of Family Guy:

I am sure you will end up seating together. worst case it would be you and the child and the 2nd adult by themself. Go and enjoy your trip. If they can't resolve it at the airport they will on the airplane. Also bring your original booking to show at the ticket counter and/or on the plane I am sure it all will work out. Enjoy your trip.

I talked to another rep today that informed me that the first (behind MCS) and last rows main cabin (rows 4 and 25 on the flight I'm on) are reserved for the airport to assign... So, we'll just show up extra early for the flight and hope for the best.

It's not the most pleasant thing, but you could always just switch seats with someone. You might get some attitude, but most people would agree to switch, especially to a window or aisle seat.
