Hello!

I will be travelling in US for three weeks in June and I have reserved a car at Hertz, Luxury Class Cadillac STS.

I was wondering about deposition. You see, I am a student and not very wealthy so I was wondering how much the deposition is? I will be taking around $3500 with me so a large depostion would really ruin the fun.

If my account doesn´t have that much money on it will the deposition be rejected at Hertz or how does it work?

Thanks in advance!

I think you mean deposit, not deposition ;)

It depends on how much you paid for the rental. The most they ever held for me was $420 when I rented a Corvette (Adrenaline collection) for 24 hours.

Do you really need a Luxury class car? It's more likely to be a Town Car than a STS (does Hertz even have those still?) I think, and unless you get a CTS or upgrade you to a Prestige vehicle (think even higher deposit!), you're probably better off with something lesser like a Premium; it'll also be a a lower rate and thus a lower deposit. You'll still get a Crown Vic if that's the kind of thing you're looking for.

It sounds like you may be using a debit card (attached to your bank account) rather than a credit card (where the bank gives you a line of credit--a loan--to use for your card). Note that Hertz (and most companies) have some different criteria when using a debit card versus a credit card. Usually, they will want to perform a credit screening on you, and sometimes they may want to charge a higher deposit than on a regular credit card.

Since you are from outside the U.S., I do not know how they will perform the credit screening on you (since you have no credit history in the U.S. for them to check). It may be worth calling the rental office directly and asking these questions.

i use a debit card and they always put a hold of $200 + cost of rental but the hold always drops off my account after 3 days
