Traveling DEL-US later this year and best flight options appear to be DEL-EWR-end or DEL-LHR-end. LHR would be first choice for miles but a little skeeved they don't allow opt outs. I would be in T3 and T5. It seems the pct scanned is currently small and my chances for non-random selection are slim but are they aiming to increase their use? Haven't been to EWR in ages but they don't have a stellar reputation, though the itinerary is appealing. Price difference is negligible. If I want to add a stop I might be able to go through Germany-Canada. What would you choose?

Are you arriving at T3 and transferring to T5, or the reverse? I haven't seen a MMW at the T3 transfer security at LHR (as recently as last week). T5 has a MMW at north and south, but with so many checkpoints and the machines not in operation much of the day, and the very low rate of scans compared to the US, chances are quite low.
But T5 is a disaster overall, so I would still vote for transferring in Germany or Canada if you can.
If you are going FROM T5 to T3, then I wouldn't worry too much about it at all. There is even a security checkpoint survey machine at T3 transfer security if you feel like sharing your opinion.
I would be MUCH, MUCH more concerned about flying from EWR, based on my experiences there and the many experiences reported online and in the media.
