Assuming a Diamond guest has several 1-2 nights stays in this summer, should s/he go with the GP points or this 4X miles promotion? Thanks for the insights guys.

Depends on where you stay - if you stay at "cheap" properties (Hyatt Place particularly), better off choosing miles if you are staying at "expensive" properties better off choosing points - breakeven is probably somewhere north of $500 per night for the stay since you are entitled to your Diamond amenity anyways and "regular" points are convertible into miles at the ratio of 1 mile for every 2 points anyways. bouncingbug May 20, 12, 9:18 am Depends on where you stay - if you stay at "cheap" properties (Hyatt Place particularly), better off choosing miles if you are staying at "expensive" properties better off choosing points - breakeven is probably somewhere north of $500 per night for the stay since you are entitled to your Diamond amenity anyways and "regular" points are convertible into miles at the ratio of 1 mile for every 2 points anyways. Also depends on number of nights on your stay...miles are given per stay whereas pts are per night (or more accurately, tied directly to spend). So more spend/nights go with pts, small spend/few nights go for miles. I think peterony's $500 breakeven ties to total spend rather than per night formite May 20, 12, 10:15 pm How about for platinums? Points or miles? peteropny May 21, 12, 6:42 am How about for platinums? Points or miles? Not really any difference, since the trade off is the miles versus the points (+15% for Plats vs +30% for Diamonds) - the Diamond welcome amenity doesn't come into play anyways for this purpose. bouncingbug May 21, 12, 12:12 pm Not really any difference, since the trade off is the miles versus the points (+15% for Plats vs +30% for Diamonds) - the Diamond welcome amenity doesn't come into play anyways for this purpose. I'd personally just hotel hop between hyatt places if that were an option in your city. 2000/2500 miles per stay is quite good! Reminds me of 2 years back when they had 2500 UA miles per stay for UA elite (but that one was more awesome since it stacked with BWB - 2 stays = 1 free night). There is no doubt for low cost stays the way to go is airline miles from a value perspective. However for those considering or working on presently trying or within reasonable reach to achieve lifetime Diamond status with all Hyatt all eligible stays where miles are earned will not be counted towards your lifetime status :( The better question may be why isn't there a point earning option during this period instead of miles only? In the short term there is the quick mileage gain which may make great sense for some. In my case I lost many thousands of dollars worth of stays to these past similar promotions not realizing that Hyatt doesn’t track the point equivalent for those stays in their million point count. I think SPG has shown us they certainly have a better way/approach of achieving status when it come to stay counts. IMHO it should be eligible spending regardless if miles or points are chosen period and perhaps as SPG did stay/night count as yet another good option Although I am target for my last 38k of spending in reaching that goal I think its a big mistake of the old Hyatt management regime who overlooked this obstacle/barrier for many years Hopefully the folks presently on board will amend this to the benefit of all parties Cheers hotelfanatic May 23, 12, 11:55 am Did I miss a new offer?? http://www.hyatthotels.hyatt.com/airlinesumpromo2012 Do I still rec my Dia amenity under this promo? While I don't see LT Diamond attainable - I'll have LT Marriott Plat and LT Starwood Plat before I'm done - I want to keep earning points so that if something changes which gives me a window to LT Hyatt Diamond, I don't shoot myself in the foot by going for miles. Also, I have airlne pass privileges so miles are nearly worthless to me - I give my airline miles away to other family members in the form of airline tickets. I scoured around for a while looking for a 'comparable' Hyatt bonus for those of us who opt toearn points. I was very surprised to find no other promotion. |
