American Express Membership Rewards - AX Biz Gold: want to change cards, but to what?eep

I've been an Amex Business Gold MR customer since 1976 (so says my card) but it's been years since I've gotten any perks out of the card, meaning, extra miles.
The annual fees are no longer worth it, considering I have an AU. Also, I am now paying annual fees on Chase Sapphire Pref and the BA Avios, on which I'm trying to meet the 20K spend.

I don't really want to cut Amex out of my life, but nor do I want to keep paying a hefty annual fee for 2 cards which we seldom use. I would keep the Amex IF I could switch it over to another type--SPG?--and get some points out of the deal, but I don't see any deals and it's not worth another credit pull (what with Chase doing 2 in the past 3 months) if I get zero out of the deal.

Suggestions?

There is not an ideal solution because, in general, American Express will not convert a charge card (green, gold, platinum) to a credit card (such as SPG) without a credit inquiry, and if they do permit an exchange you will earn a reduced bonus, or no bonus, compared to submitting a new application.

Suggest reading this thread to obtain a feel for the options:

Also, the current Business Rewards Gold card is more interesting than the version that you likely have and it may complement the Chase cards that you hold if you can find an offer with the annual fee waived for the first year:

Thanks for the confirmation of what I was hoping not to hear.

Big thanks for the link--I learned that I can take the AU off the Biz gold and put him on the Open Blue Biz (no annual fee) and still have all his points count towards my higher-level MR air miles.

Next time the SPG has a big promo I'll switch over.

... take the AU off the Biz gold and put him on the Open Blue Biz (no annual fee) and still have all his points count towards my higher-level MR air miles.

I believe they will accomplish this by opening a separate Blue for Business account, issuing a card in your name and also a card in the authorized user's name. If this is how it will be done you will receive two statements, and there may be an inquiry in connection with opening the account. Linking two card accounts to the same Membership Rewards account is standard.
