A Photo Report – The Qantas First Class Lounge - Sydney
I’ve started at a new client and it involves flying to Auckland now and again. To be honest, I love Auckland but travelling between Australia and New Zealand is such a pain in the bum it’s not something that I like to do on a regular basis. However, this time I was lucky enough to score an invite to the Qantas First Class lounge from a very kind colleague who said that she wasn’t going to use it and that I’d be able to make the most of it! Suddenly this trip was looking much more appealing!
I arrived just after many of the European flights had been called and subsequently the lounge was deserted. At one point I actually had the place to myself. This gave me a unique opportunity to take my time photographing the lounge without worrying about disturbing anyone. The staff were more than obliging too.
I used my recently acquired Nikon D800 to take these and Adobe Lightroom 4 to process them.
Enjoy!

Who needs words for a trip report when the images can tell the story.
You should see if QF want any more promotional pics for the F lounge.... :D

Wow. I love your pictures. I love the contrast, colors, and composition. What lens do you use? I'm guessing one's got to be a 50/1.4G. Possibly a 70-200/2.8? =)

Thanks for all of the fantastic comments!
I'm really pleased with how these photos turned out and I see it as bit of a tester for my next trip report which will be coming up very shortly.

Thanks noniron! All I can say is that I love Lightroom. It has some fantastic presets to help make even the dullest photos look that extra bit special. Give it a go.
Fabulous pictures, particularly of the Qantas A380 as its pulling in the landing gear.
Thank you! That was actually unexpected as the aircraft rotated really early. Normally they haven't even started retracting the gear as they fly past the lounge.
Magnificent pictures!

Great comments mattm199, thanks. Yes, it's far easier to take photos than it is to write an essay. And anyway, I was feeling lazy.

Hehe, if only. :)

I recently was lucky enough to get hold of the brand new 36 mega pixel Nikon D800, after having it on pre-order for the last 3 months.
I too love the photos, but can't help but wonder where the people are.
I said that I don't like being in rooms with other passengers so I had them all removed to the business lounge

Thanks! Good guesses! I used the 24-70 f2.8, and the 70-200mm f2.8. My two favourite lenses. I'm very interested in the 85mm 1.8G but will have to wait a while for my finances to recover.
Nice one sir!

Oh wow Matt what fantastic photos, and to have the lounge to yourself that was an amazing bonus, the times i use the lounge it is absoutely heaving no space to sit down at all. i see you tucked into some food, which is i know extremely good in that lounge. Loved the photo of QFA380 taking off, what a fantastic sight, and as you said earlier it is very unusual to see it taking off in good view of the lounge, another bonus. You have such sharp and clear pics.^

This is taking hardcore to the next level, lugging a huge paparazzi camera around when you travel. I'm too lazy to do it, especially at an airline lounge ;)

Haven't ordered the burger yet! however, I believe this is the one:-
Our Signature Sandwiches
Club with chicken, slow roasted tomatoes, Schulz bacon and aioli
Beef burger with Schulz bacon, gruyere, Zuni pickle and tomato chilli relish

Great shots and it really is one of the very best first class lounges internationally. The interiors have a very cinematic feel like an old Ken Adam film set - Dr Strangelove or one of the Bond films.
Fabulous photos! And what a lounge! I weep to contemplate the United Club.
