Other North & South America Frequent Flyer Programs - TAM itin, JJ/AM segments, two questions

I'm flying TAM on a trip that includes a TAM-operated flight JFK-GRU and a TAM-flight number operated by AeroMexico GRU-MEX.

I will credit my JFK-GRU to MileagePlus. I'd like to credit GRU-MEX to SkyMiles. What's the practical way to do that, without endangering my JFK-GRU segment crediting? Does anyone have any experience with just providing a SkyMiles number on check-in with AeroMexico and having everything just work without problems?

One more question -- any experience with trying to get a seat assignment on the AM leg?

Thanks!

If your AM flight from GRU to MEX is after your flight from JFK to GRU on TAM, I do not think you would have to worry about endangering the miles earned on the TAM flight because the TAM flight would already have been completed. If I were you, I would hand my DL FF card to the AM agent at checkin at GRU and say please place my DL FF number in my flight record. Then just make sure your DL FF number is on your boarding pass before leaving the counter.

Report back and let us know how it goes.

I can't answer your second question.

If the GRU-MEX has a JJ flight number you are not able to credit with any Skyteam carrier as the AM service was not directly sold to you, is was sold to JJ and they re-sell the seat to you, thatīs why you have a final JJ flight number.

I think you can credit the GRU-MEX only to AeroMexico or TAM, as it is a codeshare

I never even considered that it might not credit, always thought the only important thing is who the operating carrier is. :-( I do see that on the SkyMiles partner chart it says "AeroMexico marketed flights". (I didn't actually choose this flight, it was pretty much forced on me, so I can't say that this was a factor, although I guess I could have pushed back harder.)

So here's the update, with only one thing unresolved.

The total itinerary was AA-JJ outbound, then AM (sold JJ)-UA return. My UA MP number was stored when it was booked.

I called JJ to change my seat JFK-GRU, and asked them about a seat GRU-MEX. They sent a request to AM, but couldn't get confirmation. I probably should have tried to call AM. The seat did show up on my itinerary on JJ's website every day up until my departure, but I think not AM's.

When I got to the airport for outbound, I added my AAdvantage number, and when I got to JFK I reconfirmed my MP number at the JJ tkt counter.

I couldn't check in online for the GRU-MEX, and due to traffic didn't arrive at GRU until 2:50 before departure. The AM agent did NOT have my seat assignment (only middle left), and did enter my Skymiles number.

It took over a week for my very first segment to credit, the AA domestic. A couple days later the UA MEX-US credited. Finally two weeks later I made an online request on united.com for the JJ-flown segment to credit, and it was added within 48 hours. Skymiles has not credited, and according to previous responses probably is not eligible, but I'll request it anyway and see what they say.
