Virgin Atlantic Flying Club - Economy class O - why do I only get half the miles?

Hi guys.

Apologies if this has been asked before, but I'm new to all this :)

Just joined the flying club (should have done that years ago probably!), and I've been told that I going to get 5,000ish miles for my flight from London Gatwick to Las Vegas. Apparently that's because my ticket is rated class 'O'. I didn't know there was different classes within the classes, and thought Economy was just Economy? It seems that if I have other classes (but still in Economy) I get double the miles?

Whys this? Seems like I'm missing out - can I do anything about it?

Thanks :)

Each class has different fares within it. The prices of these fares vary according to whether the ticket is refundable, flexible, upgradeable and/or requires advance purchase.

O is one of the cheapest Economy fares because it is non-refundable, non-flexible and non-upgradeable. Due to the low cost of the ticket, it doesn't earn the same number of miles as the more expensive Economy fares.

However, since you're saving £00s compared to the higher fares, the additional miles aren't worth the extra cost.

In terms of the actual ground and onboard product, there is no difference between the expensive and cheaper fares.

Hope that helps a bit.

Thanks for that information, it's clarified the issue for me :)

As BA304 says you will still get the same economy seat, meal service, luggage allowance, amenity kit, IFE etc as the person who had bought the most expensive (but fully flexible) Y fare.

The CC won't even know that you only have an 'O' fare bucket ticket.
