I am delighted to announce the appointment of AJLondon as the new Forum Ambassador for the India-based Airlines Forum.
AJLondon was born in India (and is a Delhi native) but is now a true road warrior, with his day job being consumed by the demands of one of the Big 6 Global Consulting firms.
He spends his time shuttling between London, India and the US. He has maintained elite status on Jet, but also spends a lot of time on BA/LH.
His knowledge of India, the indian aviation market and his avid passion for all things travel related make him a perfect choice - to help new members and old and to impart his knowledge to the wider FT community when needed.
AJLondon brings a wealth of experience to the board and I am delighted that he has accepted our invitation to become an Ambassador.
The role of an Ambassador is to provide new members a welcoming hand to enquiries, to provide guidance and assistance on airline program updates/changes and to assist with the overall management of the forum.
Please join me in congratulating AJLondon on his new role...
Regards
SIMON

I dunno. It feels sorta awkward to welcome him after he's already been here for so long...
Maybe congratulating, thanking, or some other such action would be more appropriate
And FWIW, there is no space in AJLondon ;)

^ Good for you, AJLondon. But what does this actually mean for the forum - you're the goto guy for newbies?

Thanks for the good wishes, guys (and gals?). :) ^
Now where is that acceptance speech I had written...! Oh wait, that must have been just like First and Premiere award availability to LHR on 9W. A figment of my imagination. :p
Indialogue - Sort of. That is part of the job description. To ensure shy/tentative newbies are welcomed and looked after in the forum, as opposed to being told on their first post something like
"if you did a search, you will see this has been asked and answered 1000 times before"
Of course there are some other top-secret benefits that I really shouldn't disclose. Oh well, I can't resist. It involves stuff like Mrs Goyal feeding me paranthas and lassi. And Sid Mallya inviting me to parties with Luke Pomersbach.

Come down to Philly some time soon. There's this place Tashan (mytashan.com) that has decent Indian food and good lassis, albeit overpriced (what isn't, these days).
All of you are invited, for that matter. And AJ, as a congratulatory gift, I'll cover your lassi tab too! :) Now come to Philly people!

Deal! That menu looks good. Reminds me a bit of my favourites, Cinnamon Club in London and Varq in Delhi.
But just lassi!? What about my butter chicken and lacchedar Parantha!? :( ;)

Lacchedar parantha is far too thick for butter chicken. Rumali roti is a much better choice ^
@phillystudent, I'll make sure to check it out next time I'm in philly. Menu looks good ^. Although it looks a bit fancy for my tastes - I much prefer a sidewalk cafe-type atmosphere.

Rumali roti is for seeks kebab! You want to dip the parantha into the butter chicken gravy and let it soak. Then it just melts in your mouth. Mmmmmmm.

Hahaha no worries. Anyone who ventures into my neck of the woods and wants to say hello shall be taken care of fully!

You're right - bit fancy and kinda pricey, as I mentioned. Then again, ambiance is fantastic and the food is quite good. Was there on Friday night and several drinks (2-3 /person), appetizers, dinner, and gratuity ran us 875$ for 17 people. Then again, it was a birthday party. I suppose a regular night could come in at 20-30 /person.
For anyone who's ever been/lived in Pennsylvania, Tashan is owned by the guys who run the very successful chain Tiffin, and is one of the hotspots in Philly to see celebrities. I've come across Anil Kapoor, AR Rahman, and Shahid Kapoor (twice) there! :)

Approx 50 bucks a head with 2-3 drinks and atleast 2 food courses sounds quite reasonable to me! ^
Right, as I will be based out of Chicago for the next few months, so will plan on seeing if can fit a weekend trip to Philly. Doesn't look like there are any nice Starwoods in town though!

@AJ - do remember that my handle contains the word "student..." and so 50+ on a single meal means less food for the next two days (I'm saving up for my trip to Spain too)...
Then again, my handle also contains the word "stud..." and that isn't going so great either. :D
The UC Sheraton is quite decent, but you're right... no phenomenal SPG properties here. :(

Haha well, it is an AU (Authorized User) Cent card, to be fair. I'm decades away from qualifying on my own merit... :p
And yeah, the Airline/Rail statuses are surprisingly do-able, even as a student. We have a few 6 month internships (as part of our curriculum), and so during the internships, I've been traveling a lot for work (they see that as the mule-work). Personally, I don't mind the arrangement one bit! :D
If I'm really really lucky this year, I might even be able to hit UA 1K! Then again, UA is starting to become more of a chore to fly these days. My father (GS) ended up leaving already... Sad stuff happened to a wonderful airline after $mi$ek (i.e. Smisek) took over.
