California - Where to stay: Coachella / Indio / Palm Desert
Hey Guys -
Took a gamble and bought Coachella tickets far in advance. Hope the line-up next year is as good as it was this year. I'm looking forward to staying at a hotel this year though, and was wondering what your thoughts were on the various hotels. I booked the embassy suites ($499/29.5k pts per night!?) just so I have something for now, but I'm up for switching. I'm usually a starwood guy so I'm not familiar with redemption options at most of these chains.
I'm looking to pick a hotel from these options (click on the map): http://valleymusictravel.com/coachella_shuttles_2013_weekend1.php
Homewood Suites didn't seem to have any rooms for pts
La Quinta seemed pretty upscale and since I'm going to be gone all day I figured it wasn't worth the extra pts over embassy
Marriot desert springs didn't have anything available
Thoughts?

Seeing as Community Buzz is the forum to discuss meetings & Dos, I'll move this thread to the California forum.

There is a Hilton Garden Inn in Palm Desert on Cook, close to Mariott and good value if that what you seeking. Way better than the Embassy Suites. Across the street from Embassy Suites is A Best Western.. Hope this helps..

This is not a standard HGI. Only about 20% of their rooms have the adjustable beds. When I inquired about this at the front desk, they said that it was just an experiment at some other hotels and were not sure if it would be fully rolled out to all HGI's. Not quite, buddy.
I prefer to stay at the Holiday Inn Express 50 feet away for more comfy beds and friendlier staff. There are a lot of good restaurants in walking distance.
The Hampton Inn is really nice as well, though most restaurants are within short driving distance. It is very close to the freeway as well. Unlike the Holiday Inn Express

all good "value" options as well.. Thanks for posting.. However, after reading the OP's post, seems they are seeking certain properties to use with points.. or, OP are you looking for something close to the shuttle routes. I would personally rent a car for sure, then you can park near a shuttle stop.. Distances are not that close for most things in Valley..

I was thinking more along the lines of "I'm going to be gone all day and just need a place to sleep" mentality. Which the Hampton Inn fits perfectly: comfy bed, free breakfast, next to the freeway.
I would second renting a car, Palm Springs is a lot more spread out than people realize.

So the lineup is now released today, and I was wondering if any other fters had any plans to make it to Coachella this year..
Wondering what your plans are for hotels and such, and where you think the best option would be to stay
Thanks a bunch!

Stayed at the HIE Rancho Mirage last year. For what was needed it did the trick. Hot breakfast, refrigerator, good sized room, close to the super market and 30-40 minute drive to the festival parking lot with traffic.
Line-up looks great I'm pumped. I have a shuttle pass and staying at the Embassy Suites for now. I'm not sure how many people are going to end up in the room, so for now the large room and the shuttle convenience are worth it.
I'd change hotels but the requirements are a) Has to have points for redemption and b) needs to be on a shuttle line. No driving during Coachella.
