Hi, as a new member without any elite status, I have made several reservation in the coming June, July and August, planning to take the platinum elite challenge staring June. So, after accepting the elite challenge, is it necessary for me to inform the hotels that I had made reservation with about my elite status upgrade? Or the hotel will just know it? Thanks a lot.

The hotels will automatically know your current status at the time of your stay. You don't have to inform them.

Thanks for the information=)
My experience was different. Be prepared to prove status. Take the card if you have one by then. If not take a printout showing status.

If the reservstions where made prior to the status upgrade you may need to provide proof of you r status.

If I were you I'll contact MR CS via e-mail at Marriott.com, and inform them about this. They might be able to make a note in all your reservations.
You won't get a card until you have successfully completed the challenge.

Why? The hotel staff doesn't even look at your resevation, typically, until the day of your stay, maybe the day before, and then you have the status you have. I cannot see how they would even have access to your status from when you made the reservation?

are you correct - a hotel does not have any way of seeing the history of status changes...they can only see the status at time of checkin

Well I guess it's another inconsistency, and it seems that it's better to work on it in order to make sure everything goes well...Thanks guys, for the information and experience sharing=)

All you need to do if you don't have a card with your new status is to have C/S re-send your resevation and your hgiher status will be reflected on the newly re-sent reservation, just as it is when you now log into your account. Most hotels do see your new status, but if you have a glitch, this is a way around that.

I'm sorry I'm confused - why do you believe there is inconsistency? Your current status will always display in your GNR
