I know its SQ :) but does anyone have experience with SQ allowing a *A pax to standy for a biz seat at the gate if they're booked in biz but confirmed in coach ? TY !

I have never flow SQ, or flown on a biz award but I have read enough FT to confidently suggest/ say "No" sorry. SQ is quite strict.

Have a good trip though!

I was on a *A F award about 6 years ago. The SQ HKG-SIN flight was booked into award C as rhe F awards were not made available to UA.

But I asked if F were available at check in. It took some calls, but I was given F!

the award type you booked is between you and the airline you booked it with, i assume UA in this case according to your profile. However, the ticket was issued in Y so to SQ, they are not obliged to give you C. You can keep checking the availability in C up to 24 hrs before departure and can have UA reissue your ticket if it opens up.

You might get some sympathy at the gate, but I doubt SQ will try to accommodate you since it is an award ticket and they could not care less about award passengers in my experience.

6 years ago things were much different. SQ had many F awards avail. They no longer do

Don't count on SQ upgrading you at the gate. They don't even do that for there own Elites. What you can do is keep checking every day. SQ does open some AC award availability 1-2 weeks out. If your flight opens call UA and they can book you in C and reissue the tkt

You probably received the Only F award SQ gave out in the past 6 years.

You have to do it at check in - and you have to prove that you are on a Biz award. You cannot do last minute upgrade at the gate. Its not guaranteed either. It will also depend on your award reservation if your airline has documented that no one can touch the booking, then SQ will not touch the reservation even if the seat is available.

I once upgraded at the SQKF airside lounge at Changi after checking into my coach seat. Almost impossible to do that, but I had a confirmed upgrade a few days later, and the SQKF staff had to talk to Krisflyer SIN call center. Ground staff had to "offload" me, on paper at least, off my coach seat as I had already checked in, then to rebook me and then KF staff upgraded me and then they printed my upgraded Biz class ticket in the SQKF

So doable, but YMMV. I guess I was lucky that time, and the KF SIN call center staff went out of his way to help That I had been talking to them for a few days about letting me upgrade at the last minute if a business seat open ups no doubt helped

It is easier with SQ Krisflyer miles. OP is on *A award, hence needs to be done through airlines which issued the award.

Thank you. Seems like the probability of this occuring at checkin on a *A award is low (<20%) but not entirely impossible.

Sadly, I think it is more like <<<<<20%.

New to the Singapore Airlines FlyerTalk site. Mainly fly UA.

If I'm flying economy, does SQ allow for buy-ups to business at discounted rates as UA does? Or do you have pay the difference in fares between Y and J?

You will have to pay the full difference. SQ never offers discounted upgrading.
