Virgin Atlantic Flying Club - Advice needed - switching from DL to VA

I have been a loyal DL flyer for many years, but can no longer justify the additional expenses due to recent schedule changes (nightmares) that DL has implemented. So when looking for options to fly LCA-JFK, I found VS. Schedule looks good and price looks even better - I was flying DL purchasing a M class ticket and upgrading to Business Elite with a Systemwide Upgrade certificate or miles but I can purchase a VS ticket in upper class for about the same price as what I was paying for my DL ticket (coach but upgraded).

I do know that the LCA-LHR segment is a codeshare with Cyprus Airways and those first class seats are nothing to write home about, but the LHR-JFK segment is on VS and I believe these flights all have the lie-flat seats.

My questions are:

1. Can anyone compare the VS upper class product to the DL Business Elite product? Which is better and why? Note that on the flights I have been taking, DL has yet to implement the lie-flat seats.

2. If you were in my situation would you switch from DL to VS?

3. What advice would you give someone who plans to switch from DL to VS?

4. I see that there is an option when flying upper class to have a meal in the Clubhouse instead of on the flight (so you can get right to sleep on the flight). This option is something I have never experienced before. Is this very common - do lots of people do it? Is there a fee for the meal served in the clubhouse? How much time should one allow in the clubhouse if they were to do this?

Thanks to all.

If DL don't have flat beds on your routes there's no contest.

Most people do eat something in the Clubhouse. I tend to just have something light from the deli counter. Others prefer to have a multiple-course meal. At a push, you could have a proper meal within thirty minutes but it's probably better to allow more time for a spa treatment/haircut/drinks at the bar/whatever. Returning from JFK, most people eat something substantial in the lounge. There's no fee for meals - if you have to ask this you should definitely switch to VS. :D

And there is nothing to stop you eating in the CH AND onboard ! :D:D

If it is a designated 'night flight' from JFK to LHR then there is a shortened onboard menu and quick service to allow people to sleep if they want to.
